Formula 1 constructors’ standings after 2011 Singapore Grand Prix
The Singapore Grand Prix was an eventful and dramatic even in the 2011 Formula 1 season as we saw Michael Schumacher drive over the Sauber of Sergio Perez before crashing into the barricade along with a clash between Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa as well.
The Schumacher incident forced a safety car period while the incident between Hamilton and Massa earned the 2008 Formula 1 world champion a drive through penalty.
A very unpredictable event indeed but the end and the most important score of them all was quite predictable as the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel dominantly won the race and did not go through any sort of problems throughout the race.
This proves that Red Bull Racing team is doing an amazing job in terms of reliability as the team as a whole has suffered just one retirement up until now in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Otherwise, the team has been actively scoring results since the beginning of the season as a result of which they are still leading the championship by a handy margin. They seem uncatchable this year keeping in mind that Sebastian Vettel is also leading
the drivers’ championship very dominantly. It is just a matter of time before he seals the championship run mathematically as well.
McLaren and Ferrari have been doing a fairly good job as well but it is quite disappointing to see them behind RBR by such a margin as they are the most established teams of the sport and watching them lose like this is quite a big disappointment for many.
However, they have also had their fair share of good moments as well as McLaren have secured 4 wins with Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button scoring 2 wins each. Since both of their drivers are performing really well, they are currently in 2nd place
in the constructors’ standings while Ferrari are in 3rd place.
The main reason why Ferrari are struggling more as a constructor is that Felipe Massa has not been performing fairly well. He has not been able to cope up with the top running drivers of the sport since 2010. It is quite disappointing for the team but still
they have decided to keep the Brazilian driver for another year.
Ferrari are way behind McLaren as well and is followed by Mercedes GP in 4th place with 114 points. Mercedes have done a great job this year keeping in mind that their start to the 2011 Formula 1 season was a disaster.
They were hoping of scoring some wins as well this year but unfortunately, that did not happen this year and Lotus Renault GP pretty much have the same story as well.
They are currently in 5th place in the constructors’ standings and despite the fact that they scored two podium positions in the first two races of the 2011 Formula 1 season, they are struggling to perform which is mainly because
of their developmental issues.
Force India did a great job at the Singapore Grand Prix with a double point finish after which they have increased their lead over Sauber.
Sauber are in 7th place in the constructors’ standings following Force India who are also followed by Toro Rosso in 8th place in the constructors’ standings.
