Formula 1 news - Vettel cements his place in the Championship Battle
Sebastian Vettel marks his second victory of the season at the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain last Sunday. Previously he had been able to bag a win at the Malaysian Grand Prix in the month of April. With this triumph he had been able to enter the race of the World Championship title once again. After his flawless performance on the beautiful, shore side circuit of Valencia he talked to the Formula One official website.
The day had been over all excellent for the German driver who after packing his win went to see his nation defeating England at the World Cup clash, thus ending a marvellous day of the season.
He admitted that he was a bit surprised even himself, majorly due to the extreme happiness as all went so well and smoothly for him. He said that initially the entry of the safety car scared him as he thought that it would get a lot tight for him to pass, but he saw everyone getting to a pit stop, and finally it was a relief for him to find his passage clear. He added that the best thing that happened in his favour was the penalty offered to Lewis Hamilton which made his victory certain.
Recalling the race he said that actually it was the start of the race which was unexpected as well as exciting for him. He said that it surprised him how the entire field tried to catch up on him and especially Lewis who tried to push from the inside. Vettel added that he tried to give as much space to Lewis as possible but his car was already halfway beside him and it was not possible for him to prevent his car touching the Red Bull’s. He said that his first thought was that he might have had a punctured tyre, but he was unable to guess which part of the car had actually touched the McLaren’s and after a couple of corners it was a relief to know that all was alright and that he could keep pushing forward.
He further described that after the safety-car’s time was over he was able to get a little momentum and had a long drive before he braked. He said that by then only the tyres had got a little heated otherwise the car was nearly perfect. He was happy to add that the drive had been a fun over all.
While commenting on the terrible accident that Mark Webber, his team mate had during the race he said that he saw the crash on the on the screens which was a real shocking spectacle for him. However, he added that his team told him immediately that everyone involved in the accident was alright. He also told that it has horrifying to see the damaged car during the race.
Vettel said that at a speed with which the car was moving, the height of the lift-off Webber’s car had was really scary, he also said that such incidents make you realize what a risky job racing really was. One is constantly in the fear of dying, being badly injured or even losing a limb or so forever, but then this is actually what makes the sport so exciting, so adventurous.
Whatsoever the German seemed happy as his title chances have grown bigger owing to this victory. But he said that he was happy to see where the team had been able to reach but still they have not been able to achieve their target of getting back to the top.
This victory is definitely a step forward but yet the Red Bull has to chase the McLaren which stands at the forefront with a total of two hundred and forty eight points, thirty points ahead of Red Bull.
Well! The team is still satisfied and looking forward to lead the charts as the Formula One caravan moves to Silverstone the next month.
