Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone: Bahrain GP will take place if there is peace in the country
Formula 1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone is keen to fit the Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2011 calendar. Although the season already seems jam packed, still he is certain that the FIA will be able to accommodate the round somewhere near the end of the season.
The Briton told the media on Thursday that he was initially planning to adjust the race in the middle of the calendar, probably around the mid-season summer break. However, the hot weather conditions of the country at that part of the year will make driving
difficult for the racers, and sitting in the grandstands tough for the spectators.
The 80-year-old explained, "August? Forget it. Too hot. Too hot for the audience to sit in the grandstands, it's 40-odd degrees…"
He further added, "I'm hoping beyond hope things settle peacefully and we find a slot later in the year. If there is peace in Bahrain then we will be there, we will find a way. We'll have a look at what we can do with the date, maybe we can swap things round
a bit with Brazil or something."
However, Ecclestone is still more than hopeful that he would be able to settle this matter. He insisted that there is no reason why FIA would not be able to reschedule the Bahrain Grand Prix.
In an interview with the reporters, he stated that the FIA World Motor Sport Council will meet on Tuesday, and take the final decision for the race. He reckons that some date in November can be marked for the round.
The Bahrain GP was supposed to take place in March, to kick off the 2011 Formula 1 season. However, the political turmoil in the country these days forced the government to cancel the round. Still, Ecclestone believes that the race has only been postponed
and not been struck off the calendar for this year.
Presently, Australia has taken the responsibility to host the curtain raiser for this season which is scheduled to take place on the 27th of March in Melbourne.
