Formula 1 team Sauber hoping to score points at Malaysian Grand Prix
Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez have said that they are hoping to make up some ground after both of the Sauber drivers were disqualified from the Australian Grand Prix recently.
“Of course I'm very motivated and looking forward to what will be my second Formula One race. I think we have a good car. It is quick enough to aim for points and it was reliable. I hope we can keep this consistency and do more good races,” said Perez.
Sergio Perez surprised the audience as he scored the 7th place in his debut race of the sport at the season opener in Melbourne. Sauber was looking strong throughout the weekend as Kamui Kobayashi made it to the final session (Q3) of the qualifying
round which is between the fastest 10 drivers of the session.
However, both of the Sauber drivers were stripped of their points as the International Automobile Federation (FIA) revealed that their car’s rear wing dimensions were not as per the regulations.
As a result, the team has recently stated that they have made the required changes and they are not going to affect them for the season’s second grand prix to be held in Malaysia.
Sergio stated that since his debut grand prix weekend is now a part of the past, he knows what to expect from his new car which is going to give him a major confidence boost ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Sergio’s teammate, Kamui Kobayashi said that the tyre strategy is going to change in Malaysia.
“The guaranteed higher temperatures in Malaysia, though, will make a big difference. I especially expect the tyre degradation to be significantly higher there, so this might result in different race strategies,” said Kamui.
Kobayashi added that the race in Malaysia is going to have more pit stops as compared to the Australian Grand Prix where Perez managed an amazing one-stop strategy, despite the fact that Pirelli tyres degrade quickly.
