Formula 1 teams call meeting to discuss the Bahrain Grand Prix issue – Formula 1 news
Quite surprisingly, the organizers of Formula 1 have supported the CEO of Formula 1 Management, Bernie Ecclestone, who wants to hold the Bahrain Grand Prix quite desperately. The race is expected to take place on the 30th of October as a replacement for the Indian Grand Prix. However, Formula 1 teams have decided to hold a meeting and talk about the matter before any commitments are made.
Formula 1 Teams Association (FOTA) recently released a statement claiming a detailed joint position would follow some discussions which will take place in Canada next week in order to get a full view of what each team thinks about this decision on a personal level. Mark Webber from Red Bull Racing Team criticised the decision by saying that some matters are bigger than sports and one has to admit that Bahrain has been going through both political and security problems for the past six months.
According to the human rights activists in the country, the people of the country do not want the race to take place this year and it seems that this decision is being forced on the people against their will.
Nevertheless, none of the teams has publicly shared its opinion regarding this matter up until now despite a statement from Red Bull acknowledging the organizer’s decision. Their staments said, “We will go through the correct channels and discuss this decision within the appropriate forum with the other F1 teams and our fellow FOTA members. Red Bull will only act if enough of us join together to make clear that its brand, its very reputation, is on the line,” according to the team’s site.
Mercedes GP and Lotus Renault GP are believed to have some reservations while the others are waiting for their sponsors to give a verdict regarding this matter as it is believed that the sponsors would not support the event if it attracts negative publicity.
Things will get clearer after the FOTA members hold their meeting in Canada and reveal each team’s individual statement regarding the matter, which would definitely affect the management’s image.
