Formula 1 track site approved at the Environmental Board meeting South-Eastern Travis County
Formula 1 was facing some problems regarding the code variances on the track site in South-Eastern Travis County near the airport where the US grand prix is expected to take place. The request was approved at the Environmental Board meeting at City Hall.
There was a lot of opposition throughout the session but the Board approved the motion and the FIA believes that it is best for the sport.
“I'm going to oppose it as much as I can. Formula One advances the sale of high performance gas-guzzling cars and it's going to affect our air quality,” said Chris Lehman with the Sierra Club of Austin.
The atmosphere change after so many European and Asian Grand Prix will allow the developers of the track to eventually come up with better ideas for the circuit and begin the construction at the site.
This was the first of several potential public hearings between the Formula 1 developers and the City.
“Essentially the city code requires that if you're going to move more than four feet of dirt. You got to have it reviewed, and that's what we're doing tonight,” said F1 Attorney Richard Suttle.
According to Suttle, the developers will be relocating two gas and liquid pipelines running through the track’s location and that is the only hurdle in the way of the developers and constructors of Formula 1.
The organizers came up with the idea of re-directing the pipes around the track’s premises during the construction process however, a Formula 1 supporter came out to speak at the track’s location and spoke about the track’s idea and location on the construction
site.
“It's really awesome to know there will be a Formula 1 track in our backyard,” said Matt Sager.
The construction of the track is expected to begin this December or January and its completion is expected in 2012 as the race is expected to take place in June of 2012.
This is one of the best ideas Bernie Ecclestone came up with as there has been no US grand prix since the past couple of years and it is about time that Formula 1 brings a change. Therefore, the FIA decided to hold the US Grand Prix at a new venue and according
to its location, the track that is being constructed in Austin Texas is the best location for it.
