Formula 2 driver Mirko Bortolotti to take part in Williams test in Abu Dhabi – Formula 1 news
Mirko Bortolotti who recently secured a spectacular victory at the Formula 2 race held at Monza this Sunday, October 2, 2011, has been selected by Formula 1 team Williams to take part in a test run at Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The Italian is really happy and excited at the moment after Williams made this announcement. He expressed his views on the official website of Williams and said, “It's just amazing for me.”
Bortolotti has said that he is going to perform to the best of his abilities during the test.
“I don't know what's going to happen for 2012, we will have see,” Bortolotti said. “I managed to win this prize so I will try to prepare myself as best as I can. I had the luck in the past to get some F1 tests so maybe that could help me but of course everything
changed this year so it will be interesting to learn all the new parts that the F1 car has and try to give the best I can and enjoy the day.”
The Italian F2 driver has some experience of Formula 1 as he has been a part of the Red Bull young driver program in the past. However, he was separated from the program in the beginning of 2010 after which he joined Ferrari Drivers’ Academy which he also
left soon.
Bortolotti has progressed through this season very well and his performance during the season so far has been quite impressive. The Williams team sees great potential and talent in him.
He recently received the FIA Superlicense that is a pre-requisite to run in Formula 1 after his victory at the Monza race.
Williams team principal Sir Frank Williams has praised Bortolotti and has shown his interest and anticipation in seeing how well this 21-year-old Italian performs in a Formula 1 car at the test run scheduled in Abu Dhabi.
Frank said, “Mirko Bortolotti is another worthy winner of the F2 Championship.”
Bortolotti is looking forward to the Williams test and is optimistic that he will fare well in it.
Let’s see how Bortolotti performs at the test run with Williams with is due to take place in November 2011.
