Formula 3 race at the Korean International Circuit called off
After a dramatic Korean Grand Prix in the Formula 1, the inaugural race was won by Fernando Alonso followed by Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. It was one of the most ground breaking races of the season
since both Red Bulls retired out of the race enabling Fernando to take the lead. However, the race was followed by a handful of controversies as most of the drivers complained that the track was a bit too slippery since Formula 1 saw a wet Korean Grand prix.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the race had to be postponed and it was unbelievable how Formula 1 managed to pull the race off. After evaluating the situation at the Korean International Circuit, the inaugural race has been brought into question according
to emerging news on Thursday.
However, the FIA can take no action against this problem since the inspectors of the FIA cleared the track after the race that took place on October 24th. But it seems that the Formula 3 race that is expected to take place late in November on the Korean
International circuit could be considered unsafe.
According to Organiser Barry Bland, (Local promoter) KAVO have had to cancel the (event) due to Force Majeure.
He believes that there were issues relating the “legal technicality with the track” and unlike Formula 1, Formula 3 did not want to take the risk and therefore, KAVO spokesman told a news agency that the race was cancelled due to “delayed approval from inspectors.”
A joint private venture was setup that included KAVO (Korea Auto Valley Operation) involving Jeollanam-do regional government.
The decision is expected to affect next year’s Korean Grand Prix for Formula 1 that has been scheduled on the calendar unconditionally for the 2011 season on 16 October.
“We will do our best to build complete mobile stands. Compared to the lack of experience, we believe the first Formula 1 race was staged in a satisfactory way, but we need to make perfect preparations for the F3 race next year,” the spokesman added.
Therefore, this decision will affect the venue vitally and it would be interesting to see how the FIA reacts to this decision.
