Formula One 2010 Season in Numbers
After the German Grand Prix 2010, bettor.com has updated the current season statistics. Let’s take a look at drivers who have improved after the last race.
Championship Leaders
The 2010 season has seen 5 championship leaders but since Hamilton continued his domination, a new leader on the board is yet to arrive. However Hamilton’s lead has been extended to 4 races with a healthy aggregate of 14 points. The Constructors’ table continues to be dominated by McLaren with a lead of 28 points over Red Bull Racing. Out of the total 11 races, McLaren has gone into 7 races as the Championship leader.
Pole Positions
Red Bull have improved their pole position statistics with another pole in Germany and claiming 10 out of 11 pole positions this season. Vettel has started with 6 races from pole position this season but has won only 2. Webber had 4 starts from pole while Hamilton had only one. Qualifying in the second place was Alonso’s best qualifying for this season while he started from P3 for the first time. Jenson had his third start from P5 and Hamilton started from P6 for the second time in the season. Again, only 6 out of 25 drivers managed to start from front row.
Vettel is still the best qualifier as on average, his qualifying position has improved to 1.7. He is followed by Webber who qualifies at number 2.6 on average while Hamilton on average qualifies at 5.9. The three worst qualifiers are Chandhok, Lucas di Grassi and Bruno Senna as all of these qualify on P23 on average.
The combined average qualifying position for the two Red Bull drivers is a healthy 4th position. McLarens are second best with the 13th position and Ferrari has topped Mercedes with the 14th position on average.
Race Finishes
So far, only 5 drivers have won a race in the Championship this season. Webber leads with 3 race victories and Hamilton, Button, Alonso and Vettel have two victories each. Thus, Red Bull Racing has won 5 times, McLaren with 4 victories and Ferrari winning on two occasions. This season has seen Lewis Hamilton remaining the best finisher so far by ending every race at the 4th position on average. The next best finishers include Jenson Button with an average finishing position of 5.6 and Alonso replaced Rosberg with 5.8 against the German’s 6.1. Senna and Glock are the worst finishers in P21 while Di Grassi is slightly better with an average finishing position of P20.
Each McLaren finishes the race on an average of 5th position in every race. Red Bull and Ferrari finish a race in P7 on average.
Up and Down the Pack
Massa and Hamilton hold their place as the biggest movers up the pack. Both drivers gained 14 positions each in the Malaysian GP. Kobayashi’s finish at the 7th from the 18th in Valencia is the third best finish. Jenson’s victory in China from 5th position start is also a stat yet to be bettered.
Alonso’s start from the 3rd position and finish at the 14th place in Silverstone was the worst result of the season by any driver finishing the race. Massa’s fall of 9 places in Canada and 8 in Silverstone is the next worst fluctuation for this season. Ferrari will look to neutralize the effects of these numbers in the races to come.
As far as positions gained on the track are concerned, Chandhok has gained 4.5 positions on average while Alguersuari gained 3. Button was the third best in terms of gaining track positions but after the last race, Di Grassi moved to the third spot after gaining 2 positions on average after every race. Vettel and de la Rosa are projected to lose 5.5 positions after every race on average while Hulkenberg loses 4 positions.
Both HRT’s are, on average, gaining 5.5 track positions after every race while the McLarens move up with 3.5 and both Virgins move up by 1 position after starting each race. Red Bulls and Saubers both lose 9 positions after each race and Williams lose 5 positions on average.
Retirements
The number of retirements has gone up from 61 to 66 while it slightly comes down to 6 retirements per race. Australia saw most retirements viz. 10 while there have been only 3 in Valencia. There have been 5 retirements in Germany.
After the team orders controversy in Germany, there is a possibility that Ferrari might be stripped off the points in Hockenheim. In that case, these stats will change considerably.
