Although every Formula One season is thrilling and fun filled, but it can be very easily said that a season like 2010 has not been witnessed in the 60 years’ history of the sport.
The race fans never went short of surprises and amusement, on and off the track all throughout the year. Every spice required to make a Formula One season luscious has been sprinkled in abundance for the race fans.
The race followers were served with some of the most awe-inspiring racing spectacles, intensely heated on and off track rivalry, some very astonishing and exciting technological advancements and a lot more. The festivity at Singapore’s night race, the charisma
of Monaco, the return of Canadian Grand prix, the ambiance at the legendry Monza track and nevertheless the glamour and elegance of the Yas Marina Circuit of Abu Dhabi savoured the 2010 season marvellously.
The blooming spring of early March raised the curtain with the Brazilian Grand Prix, as the Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, gave the first treat of the season to race fans with their 1-2 finish.
However, the Italian squad lulled away following the exciting victory while Red Bull emerged strongly. Both the team drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were able to do very well right from the beginning. Moreover, some brilliant early advancement
like the blown diffuser, and f-duct made their RB6 as the fastest car of the season.
Until the disappointing Turkish Grand Prix, the Austrian team kept dominating the track. In Istanbul as the team was heading for a 1-2 finish, with Webber leading the race while Vettel following him for second place, the enmity of the Red Bull duo cost them
heavily. In chase of a race win, both the drivers crashed into each other, which resulted in Vettel’s retirement from the race while Webber had to settle at third place.
This race further brought a twist in the season. Red Bull’s collision gave a fine 1-2 finish to the McLaren drivers, as Lewis Hamilton grabbed race win while the 2009 champion Jenson Button stood at second place. The same finish was repeated in the very
next race by the McLaren drivers, which brought Hamilton to the top of the tally sliding Webber down to second place.
The next few races saw the four men of Red Bull and McLaren engaged in the battle for the title. All the four drivers, Hamilton, Button, Webber and Vettel stayed equally determined, although Red Bull maintained a far better pace as compared to McLaren.
However, the German Grand Prix came up with further surprises. The Ferrari driver, Alonso bagged his second victory of the season, although it was full of controversies because of the team orders. However, despite all the criticism and condemnation there
was no stopping to the team or its driver, Alonso. From his initial fifth place in the charts, the Spaniard soon reached to the top of the tally, bagging five race wins and 6 podiums during the last 9 races.
The last few rounds had been exceptionally poor for Hamilton who was unable to finish 3 out of the last 8 races. Moreover, for not being able to bag any victory after the first two, the other McLaren driver Button became an outsider for the championship
even before the last round in Abu Dhabi, leaving the final tug between the top four drivers.
As the Formula One caravan entered the Yas Marina Circuit, for the decisive round of the season, Alonso topped the charts with his 246 Points while Webber stood at 2nd place only 8 points short of the toper. Vettel was further 7 points shy of
his team-mate followed by Hamilton who had 222 points and was almost an outsider of the title.
However, as the day ended Vettel came out as the youngest world champion leaving behind all the older and more experienced men of the season thus giving a perfect ending to the most thrilling and exhilarating season of the game’s history.
