Formula One: Alonso, The Two Times World Champion

He is courageous and daring. His fans compare him with superman and spider man for his unmatched speed on the track. We are talking about none other than the two times Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso.

Alonso is currently driving for the Ferrari team alongside Felipe Massa. The twosome had been able to provide the team with a total of one hundred and sixty three points as the team secures the third place.

Alonso, the Spanish driver was born on the 29 July 1981. Unlike the usual trend in the racing world, he did not come from a rich family; his mother was only an employee in a department store and the family hardly had their needs fulfilled. His love for racing probably came from his father who was a mechanic in a small explosive factory. At the time when he was only three years old, his father made a Kart for his eight year old sister, who took no interest in it. Instead, it was Alonso who developed a craze for racing since then. His father further nurtured his love for racing, as he kept supporting Alonso while he moved all around Spain taking part in karting competitions and winning one after the other. However, the family was not able to take care of all the financial requirements of the sporting world but it was one success after the other, which helped Alonso pull enough sponsorship to keep up with all the expenses of the sport.

Between 1993 and 1996, he was able to bag four Spanish Championships successively and later in 1996, he successfully won the Junior World Cup.

The year 1998 marked his first testing in car racing, where he was able to impress everyone thus making room for him in the 1999 Spanish Euro Open MoviStar by Nissan series, running for Campos, where he won the title in his very first season.

The very next year he moved to Formula 3000, which is often considered as the final step towards the Formula One Series. Here he was not able to gain a single point till the seventh race of the season, however the last two races marked his second and first place finish thus attaining the fourth place for him in the overall season.

Alonso was able to step in the Formula One arena in the year 2001, marking his debut season with Minardi. Overall, the season was not a great one and he was only once able to finish at the tenth place during the race in Germany. However, he was not able to get a lot of points, but still he was able to get himself noticed. The next year he gave test driving for Renault as well as one-off test with Jaguar as well.

The year 2003 brought him a lot of luck as Renault signed him in place of Michael Schumacher and in Malaysia he became the youngest ever pole sitter in Formula One. He was able to finish at the sixth place in the year in addition to his pole position, as well as victory in Hungary. The next year was not as good as expected from him however, he ended fourth in the annual Drivers’ Standings of the year including his second position in France.

The year 2005, poured wells of luck on him as he was able to take the title of the youngest World Champion only at the age of twenty four. Good luck walked along the following year as well when he was successful to retain his title. Also in the same year, Alonso got married to Raquel del Rosario, the famous Spanish singer.

The Spanish driver moved to McLaren the next year, only to return back to Ferrari in a years’ time as he was not able to adjust with them. Later in the year 2008 he was able to finish at fifth place overall and in 2009 he went short of luck and ended at ninth place.

Currently the two times Champ stands at fifth place after the nine races of the season, hoping to ladder up the charts in the upcoming races. His fans as well as the team hope to see him bag the Championship of the season, as he was able to win the season starter in Bahrain earlier this year.

Whereas Alonso had been able to grab ninety six points in the season making him stand at the fifth place of the drivers’ Standing.
