Formula One: And the Team Lotus issue goes on..
‘Team Lotus' still remains adamant on using the same title for its squad on the 2011 grid. On Wednesday (today), the Group Lotus finalised a deal with Renault F1 Team for 2011, however, the current Team Lotus told the media just a little while back that
they are not going to give up, no matter what keeps happening around them.
A very strange situation has come up at Formula One as the final deal between the Malaysian car manufacturer, Group Lotus and the French racing team, Renault F1 Team got sealed today. With this deal, Group Lotus has become the official title sponsor for
the team and 2011 will see Renault Team named, ‘Lotus Renault GP’ on the grid. This gives two teams the similar name for next year’s calendar as there is already this - Tony Fernandes' Malaysian team called, Team Lotus.
Moreover, both the teams are also insistent to use this historical, black and gold paint on the cars, following the legacy of the former iconic Lotus team. During the 1980s, Ayrton Senna drove for the team in a similar coloured car, which now inspires the
fans as well as all the drivers and teams immensely.
Although the matter for the team name is already in the court, but still Fernandes' is too persistent to continue with the same title for his team, no matter what he has to do for that. Since the start of the issue, Group Lotus has imposed a lot of pressure
on Fernandes and his team but still he sounds very resolute.
He tweeted earlier today, "(Group Lotus CEO) Dany Bahar has done us a favour. Never felt better about our future and Team Lotus. Looks like they (are) trying to hijack our black and gold idea."
A few moments after he typed this, one of the team fans replied back saying:
“Stick with the green and gold, save some cash to spend on the car!”
While still in Bangkok, Fernandes informed his followers, “Funny, first meeting I had was in the Lotus room. Wonder if Dany is going to try and sponsor that."
Moreover, the team's technical boss, Mike Gascoyne was also tweeting about the matter confirming the team fans that they need not worry as the team will run the next season under the same title, ‘Team Lotus’ and that they are going to stay in the sport for
a long time.
He typed: "Lotus, just like buses, you wait for ages and then 2 come along at once. Rest assured, we are Team Lotus and we are here to stay."
