Formula One: As the RB6 flew through the 2010 season
The RB6 of Red Bull Racing was undoubtedly one of the fastest cars to ever come on the Formula One grid. With this super speed car, the team should have wrapped up the season far earlier than it actually did, and could have made some records to be remembered
in the Formula One history books for a very long time.
However, the team kept losing its dominance on the track, every now and then, which proved brilliant for Formula One and its fans while very unfortunate for the team. Instead of having seen a clean sweep by one team, a thrilling five-way battle for the title
was enjoyed by the race fans till the every last race of the season. Finally, as the season ended, just as thought at the start of the season, the Red Bull Racing was able to bag its first drivers’ as well as the constructs’ championship. Moreover, the team
driver, Sebastian Vettel also stood out as the last man standing after a very crucial battle between the top five racers, claiming his first championship and making the record of being the youngest world champion ever in the sport’s history.
Although it is accepted by everyone that the championship went to the right hands, yet this is also true that the team had to do much extra work even though they already had all the ingredients of a title winning team. At more than many instances, both its
drivers came up with unnecessary and unwanted drams, which not only kept on taking the title away but also decreased the much deserved dominance of the team on the track.
The last year saw the Brawn GP team conquer both the charts of the season right at the beginning. The team driver, Jenson Button bagged six out of the first seven races, making the championship win fairly easy and comfortable for him for the rest of the
season. On the other hand, despite having great potential the intra-team enmity and some unfortunate accidents and technical failures kept the season indecisive for Red Bull while the interest and anticipation of the fans kept mounting at one after the other
race.
Now, when one looks at the yearend statistics one can very easily say that the season unwrapped very well for the team and there is no question they had met victory. With the team’s nine race wins and 15 pole positions from the total 19 races of the season,
in addition to an advantage of 44 point to their closet team at the end of the season, anyone can predict that the battle was an obvious win for them. Yet, it was not so.
Although the Red Bull Racing was very fast, and it could have won every single race of the season yet mishaps and their faults prevented them from doing so. The season opener in Bahrain saw the first hard luck of the team as the team drivers, Vettel and
Mark Webber ended at 4th and 8th places respectively. However, the first victory of Vettel at the Malaysian Grand Prix, and Webber’s consecutive triumphs in Spain and Monaco saw the drivers get on the winning flight. The following races
kept seeing the two Red Bull men conquering one pole after the other and standing at podiums after every next race demonstrating an unmatched pace on each and every track they went on.
The team’s current car had everything better and more refined than their last year’s RB5 which was also thought to be the fastest car of the 2009 season. However, the RB6 further kept improving at every next round as the drivers kept on bagging points, poles
and podiums every now and then.
