Formula One: Belgium Grand Prix- Webber Takes Lead at Final Practice
The final practice went just as it was expected by all, wet and cold. The initial 45 minutes of Spa-Francorchamps track were dry, but when rain started pouring, it followed the drivers till the end of the morning practice.
As the session began, both the McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were quick to gain pace, as they moved forward towards the chart leader of the session, Mark Webber, while Button chased the three, followed by Robert Kubica of Renault.
However, as the day ended, after all the action in rain, Webber was the top man with1m 46.106s, while Hamilton held his tail on 1m 46.223s to end the day at second place.
Sebastian Vettel ended the day in the second Red Bull with 1m 46.396s, while the pattern of the top two drivers was again followed, as the second McLaren of Button ended behind the Red Bull with 1m 46.397s. Kubica was happy with his Renault car as he ended at fifth place with 1m 46.492s.
Fernando Alonso, who was able to stand at top in both the previous practices and Felipe Massa came together at sixth and seventh places with 1m 46.627s and 1m 46.962s in their Ferrari.
Adrian Sutil, who had shown good form in all three practices ended at eighth place in his Force India with 1m 47.064s, while his team mate Tonio Liuzzi struggled to keep his straight-line speed good and also had to face minor aero problems, finally ending with 1m 48.692s, 1.6s down at 18th.
Nico Hulkenberg for Williams ended for ninth place in 1m 47.160s, followed by the BMW Saubers’ Kamui Kobayashi and Pedro de la Rosa both ending at 1m 47.296s and 1m 47.388s respectively.
The second Renault driver, Vitaly Petrov ended at 12th position with 1m 47.406s, followed by Williams' Rubens Barrichello with 1m 47.512s.
The German racer, Michael Schumacher accompanied his teammate Nico Rosberg as the twosome marked on 1m 47.695s and on 1m 47.837s for fourteenth and fifteenth place in their Mercedes car.
The Toro Rosso drivers Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari also ended one after the other with 1m 47.905s and 1m 47.981s respectively.
Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi with 1:48.692s and Jarno Trulli of Lotus with 1m 50.600s came at eighteenth and nineteenth places.
Bruno Senna parked his second HRT on 1m 51.133s a place ahead of Heikki Kovalainen on 1m 51.384s, while the two Virgin drivers Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock followed him on 1m 51.517s and 1m 51.669s. Sakon Yamamoto was last man of the day in his HRT with 1m 52.001s.
By this session, Red Bull and McLaren had again proved to be strong competitors of the season, yet Ferrari must not be forgotten either.
