Formula One: Brazilian Grand Prix- Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren team principal’s take on the season
After a very thrilling and exciting season, the Formula One caravan finally sets to take its final twists and turns. With only two more races to go and all the top five players equally committed and motivated, the rest of the two races are expected to be
even more intense now. Though the entire 2010 season has unwrapped in a very surprising and dramatic manner, yet the last two rounds are hoped to be even more jaw dropping and nerve tickling.
As all the teams prepare their best to enter the final two arenas, the team drivers as well as the managers talked to the reporters expressing their aspirations and hopes for the upcoming race.
The next race of the season is to be staged at the Brazilian track, Interlagos, on the 7th of November. This Brazilian Grand Prix would mark the 18th and the 2nd last round of the season, while the last one would be held
later in November, at the Abu Dhabi circuit.
Like many of the other team principals, McLaren’s team boss Martin Whitmarsh is also looking forward for this race as a very critical and decisive one for the 2010 championship.
The McLaren team currently stands at a very crucial point in both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship. With their 399 points, the British team holds 2nd place in the Constructors’ tally while the Austrian Team, Red Bull leads
the charts with 426 points. They are followed by the Italian team Ferrari, which holds 3rd slot in the charts having bagged a total of 374 points.
On the other hand, McLaren has occupied 3rd and 5th place in the drivers’ championship with their two British drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button respectively. Hamilton stands at 2nd with his 210 points after having
bagged three race wins and eight podium finishes. On the other hand, Button timidly occupies 5th place in the charts after having lost the opportunity to score any points at the last race in Korea. With his 189 points, he is 42 points adrift the
charts’ topper, Fernando Alonso and has very little hope to defend his drivers’ title this season.
However, the reigning world champion is adamant to fight on till the very end of the rope though his chances seem very little. Button is of the view that championship is never bagged unless one becomes a resolute fighter and he is determined to be one this
season. Moreover, his entire team and especially the team boss are completely willing to help and support the racer till the very last race of the season.
Now, while talking to the media Whitmarsh declared, "If Formula 1 has taught us competitors one thing over the past couple of years, it's to never give up hope until the odds are no longer possible, and that the most unexpected outcome can become a very
real and viable possibility sooner than you can readily imagine. As for the Constructors' Championship, we're only 27 points off the top spot - a very slender margin, and one that both Jenson and Lewis are convinced we can bridge by the time the chequered
flag falls in Abu Dhabi.”
He further went on to say that, "We're now reaching the critical climax of this year's world championship. With the two final races spread just one week apart, and five drivers still in the hunt for overall honours, it's a fascinating and thrilling prospect
for our sport.”
The British team boss believes to see both his team drivers showing wonders on the track. Well, for Hamilton one can say that he is capable of pulling rabbits out of the hat when required, however Button, the defending champion still has to prove that.
