Formula One - Button points Vettel’s mistakes on track
As both the drivers return from Spa-Francorchamps, Jenson Button of McLaren criticizes Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull, accusing that the latter had made too many mistakes to stay in the championship fight of the season.
Button currently stands at fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship with a total of one hundred and forty seven points following the tail of the Vettel who had bagged one hundred and fifty one points so far.
Button claims that he is ready to enter the next race with a new fighting spirit as the Formula One caravan moves towards its next race, the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks' time.
The Belgian Grand Prix, held last weekend, Button lost his race after he was hit by Vettel on the 16th lap, while the Red Bull driver was attempting to overtake him on the wet track. The accident had cost both the drivers heavily especially Button who now stands shy of 35 points from the championship leader and teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
While talking to the Press Association at the end of the race, Button commented about Vettel saying, "He just made a mistake, and for me it was a big mistake that cost me a lot of points." He further continued saying that he has paid immensely for the mistake of the Red Bull driver and he is really disappointed as Vettel had made such mistakes a couple of times earlier this year as well.
He explained his statement by telling that he does not convict Vettel of being a dangerous driver on the track rather he believes that Vettel has made too many mistakes all through the season and the kind of tough competition that is going on this year, one cannot afford to make so many mistakes and still be able to fight for the world championship.
The British driver moreover accepted the fact that the Red Bull man is extremely quick, and at times he had given them a tough time owing to his speed, which the McLaren were not able to chase, “to get seven poles is extraordinary in the amount of races we have had,” he stated. While he was quick to add that having seven poles and winning only two races is also very surprising.
As the race brutally ended for Button following the accident the distressed driver said, "It's a massive blow - a massive blow. It hurts quite a bit really." However, he still had not lost confidence and still thinks that six more races of the season could turn the tables around for him.
"When I got out of my car and walked into my drivers' room I said what happened had massively hurt my championship, and coming back from it would be very difficult," exclaimed the driver while talking to the Press Association.
His disappointment from the last race is very logical, as a difference of 35 points is a big one but still it is definitely not impossible.
The driver now prepares for the next race in Monza with a very positive attitude believing, “I can have a good race, but also forgetting the championship. I'm in a position now where I have to work towards a race victory because if I come away with that it's a very different atmosphere and a very different feeling for me.”
Well, the Monza Circuit is one that Button had always declared to love and now he hopes to do very well there.
The McLaren car has also proved to be quite competitive at the last race in Spa. Two more weeks to go and we will see how well he would be able to do.
