Formula One: Can Ferrari hijack the championship
It isn't easy for any team to dominate its respective sport for almost over six decades but that is something that Scuderia Ferrari have managed to accomplish. Their 61 seasons in Formula One have been decorated with 16 championship trophies whilst in the
last ten years, they have dominated the sport; claiming seven constructor's championships.
However, with a season that started on a positive note when the Italian giants finished one two in the opening Baharain Grand Prix, the team was hit by problems in its engineering and the drivers started misfiring, especially Felipe Massa who is still unable
to break his shackles.
On the contrary, Fernando Alonso has gone all out in his quest for the title, racing to second spot in the drivers’ championship behind the Red Bull's Australian driver Mark Webber, and with four races to go battle for the drivers’ title couldn't have been
anything but intense.
With one driver showing little signs of recovery from the shock team orders of German grand Prix, Ferrari's dream of a constructor championship in this season may not come true as they sit in third place behind Red Bull and McLaren.
Moreover, although Alonso is trying to make sure they won't end up empty-handed at the end of the nineteenth race in Abu Dhabi, the task is by no means easy for the Spaniard.
If all goes well in the practices and the qualifications, Ferrari would be hoping to emulate the results of Bahrain and Germany and harvest maximum points from the Japan Grand Prix on the Suzuka race track.
Suzuka is considered to be one of the favourite circuits for the drivers, and is hosting the sixteenth race of the season. With the race for the championship going right down to the wire, it promises to be an enthralling start to the climax to the 2010 season.
Red Bull's Mark Webber heads the standings by 11 points from the two-time world champion, and the Australian will try his best to push ahead and realise his dream of winning his maiden title in Formula One.
However, the threat to Ferrari’s title hopes is not only from Down Under, they are somewhat global!
Red Bull's German starlet Sebastian Vettel, is in the fourth place. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton who became the champion in 2008 is 20 points behind Mark Webber.
This time around, he will be holding nothing back to get is title hopes back on track.
His compatriot and teammate Jenson Button still holds hope of retaining the world title that he won with Brawn last year, in spite of being fifth overall this season 25 points behind Webber.
With the top five raring to risk everything for the title, Suzuka is set to be the first of the battle grounds en route to the title, with everyone in the pits signalling the intent of the big battle about to begin.
In addition, for the track, which is considered one of the most challenging one in the season, you muster your way through an amusement park filled with surprises to get to the paddock.
With the title race wide open, it is almost anyone's crown for the taking and all you have to do is show a little heart.
Although, the momentum is currently with Ferrari going into the race, as they have had two victories on the bounce, but the points maybe giving confidence to the others.
With any of the top five drivers easily stealing the title, question remains that can the veterans of motor racing give it their one last push and get the solace of driver’s championship for the Scuderia.
