Formula One: Cruising through 2010 season (Part 1)
An exciting and thrilling Formula One season now reaches its apex. The 2010 season has served with all that a race lover could ever ask for. The platter was filled with thrill and action, adventure and suspense.
Every race has unwrapped in a surprising and uncertain manner, keeping the followers’ fingers crossed and jaws drooped as they kept on seeing their favourite drivers’ circus around the globe, from one brutal arena to another.
The nerve tickling season has now reached its most crucial part, with only four more races to go. The Drivers’ Championship has shaped up quite dramatically with the top five drivers being just twenty five points away from each other.
All are now equally determined and looking forward to give their best as the season takes its final twists and turns. Before we head for the last few episodes of the season, let us take a peep in the past and see how the drivers ramped through the tough
and tricky fifteen arenas to reach where they stand now.
Highlights of the start:
Before the curtain rose for 2010 season, some big news items made the headlines with the biggest being the return of seven times Formula One World champion, Michael Schumacher.
The Constructors' Champion of 2010, Brawn GP team formed the most promising team for 2010 by tying up with Schumacher and Mercedes-Benz and changing its name to Mercedes GP. Brawn GP's former driver and winner of 2009, Jenson Button moved to McLaren making
the British team another strong competitor. Another news item that made headlines was the absence of Kimi Räikkönen, champion of 2007.
Season Opener-Bahrain Grand Prix:
The first race of the season was filled with ecstasy and enthusiasm as all season openers usually are. The drivers are high-spirited, teams exploding with energy and aspiration while fans are jubilant and festive to begin another exciting and exhilarating
cruise with their favourite series.
This year, the two time champion, Fernando Alonso, bagged the first victory of the season while his teammate, Felipe Massa also stood proud at second place on the podium. This one-two finish gave a great start to Ferrari, although this was followed by a
long gloomy patch for them.
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton bagged 3rd while Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel settled himself at 4th place. But, what made the race special was to see Schumacher flee on the track once again after a long period of 3 years. While his fans waited
to see him do wonders and magic, he decently finished at sixth place, one place behind his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
Seven drivers retired from the race among whom only HRT’s Karun Chandhok ended his at the first lap because of an accident while the rest suffered problems with their new cars.
Australian Grand Prix:
The two Ferrari men again glued together for 3rd and 4th place, while this time the title defender, Jenson Button conquered the circuit. The second race of the season brought forward Renault as well, as Robert Kubica secured 2nd
place.
The fans of Michael Schumacher, silently accepted his tenth place finish hoping to see his spell in a little. Nine of the racers retired due to different reasons.
Malaysian Grand Prix:
The Formula One cars took rendezvous in a beautiful island of Malaysia at the start of the spring season to unwind the third race of the season.
Here, Red Bull emerged surprisingly fast bagging their first 1-2 finish of the season, followed by a brilliant 3rd place finish by Nico Rosberg, the Mercedes GP driver.
Renault was again fast as Kubica claimed the fourth place. This race once again disappointed Schumacher's fans as the former champion retired from the race along with seven other drivers.
The initial three races just marked the beginning of a season which nobody knew would evolve into such a historical and sensational one. To catch more on the action and drama, stay tuned for the second part...
