Formula One: Cruising through 2010 season (Part 3)
European Grand Prix- Webber’s car shows a stunt:
Another great race was waiting for the skilful drivers and extraordinary cars of Formula One in Brazil at the end of June.
The day was an unforgettable one for Red Bull as one of its drivers; Sebastian Vettel marked the top place of the championship while Mark Webber was lucky to walk out harmless after a dramatic crash.
At the tenth lap of the race, Webber crashed with Heikki Kovalainen of Lotus-Cosworth resulting which the Australian’s car did a complete somersault in the air before landing and hitting the tire wall of the track. It was somehow miraculous that the driver
walked out of his RB6 in one piece.
On the other hand, the day was a good one for the two McLaren men as they ended at second and third places bagging another thirty three points for the team, thus cementing its top position in the Constructor’s Championship.
British Grand Prix- Red Bull team rivalry continues:
As the Formula One caravan crept to the mid season, heat and fire kept increasing on the track. The tenth round of the season saw further more thrill and drama as another show of Red Bull rivalry was staged at Silverstone.
Since Mark Webber’s car showed a stunt at the previous race in Spain, therefore team came up with a new chassis for him for the next round in Great Britain. However, at the final race day the team broke into a severe clash as Webber car’s front wing was
granted to his teammate, Vettel reasoning his better position in the championship tally.
This action offended the Australian immensely who cruised through the track in great anger and anguish till he saw the chequered flag. As the furious driver stood on the podium he aggressively stated, “Not bad for a number two driver!” Following the race,
Red Bull claimed that the issue has been resolved within the team and the air is clean now.
The British Grand Prix also saw some unpredictable results as the other Red Bull driver, Vettel finished at 7th place while Nico Rosberg beat Jenson Button of McLaren, who finished at 4th and made his way to third place while his teammate,
Michael Schumacher parked his car at 9th place.
A much heated weekend ended, to lead another similar one.
German Grand Prix-Ferrari bounces back with a bang:
The most unexpected and controversial race which changed the season’s proceedings entirely, was witnessed at Hockenheim.
Ferrari, which was facing a bleak and gloomy mid season with an uncompetitive car, suddenly came up with a roar, crossed by the super fast Red Bull cars and the aggressive McLaren drivers, to snatch away a 1-2 finish for the team though coupled with worst
controversy of the season.
The Italian team was once again accused of team ordering like earlier seasons. As its two drivers headed for a 1-2 finish with Felipe Massa leading, a radio message told him, “Alonso is faster than you. Can you confirm you understand this message?” Of course,
he understood. Following the message, the obedient deriver slowed down letting his teammate take the first position while he stood timidly as second place on the podium.
The action was so evident that the team immediately got a penalty of US$ 100,000 from the German Stewards while the case was also forwarded to FIA’s regulatory body for further investigation.
Lewis Hamilton grabbed the third place on the podium and was followed by his teammate Button. With this, McLaren continued to lead the Drivers’ as well as Constructors’ Championship.
The first eleven races of the season end here but action and drama does not. As the season kept on moving, thrill and adventure also continued to pour in. There is a lot more you’d still want to know, so stay tuned because it is worth the wait.
