Formula One: Ecclestone Thinks Schumacher Must Quit After This Season
The year had not been very good for the seven times winner of the World Championship, Michael Schumacher. Though there was a lot of hype created for him, as he returned back to the track earlier this year but so far, he had not been able to give a single outstanding performance all through out the year. After defending him in a few races now, the Formula One president, Bernie Ecclestone has also joined the group of critics that think that he must retire after this season.
Last week at the British Grand Prix, he was able to secure only two points as he ended at the ninth place in the race after starting from the tenth place on the grid. The German driver currently stands at ninth place in the Drivers’ championship with a total of thirty six points in the year.
After the last race at the Silverstone Circuit, Ecclestone had also joined Sir Jackie Stewart, as he had been tipping Schumacher lately to return to retirement as the 2010 season ends. The 41 year old driver, one of the biggest racing sensations ever, had returned to the race track after a period of three years. In the year 2007, he announced his retirement from the race track only to come back after a period of three years. As he made his return earlier this year, a lot of hype was created about him, expecting some magical racing on the track as this man had always been able to amuse all by his exceptional racing skills.
However, since the season began, not even the shadow of the great invincible old racer had been seen on the tracks. Schumacher had also been criticised badly after the last few races due to his unsatisfactory performance since the start of the season. After the Canadian Grand Prix, as he ended at eleventh place he was accused of giving the worst performance of his life.
With half of the season already gone, he had not been able to get a single podium. His highest finish had been the two times when he ended at the forth place in the Spanish and the Turkish Grands Prix. At the Malaysian Grand Prix, he had to retire from the race and his worst race so far had been his twelfth place finish starting from the seventh on the grid at Monaco Grand Prix.
With half of the season already gone, the great racer had been able to give only a mediocre return to F1 though a lot better was expected from him. A lot of analysts now think that Schumacher should have never actually returned to the race for the reason that his image and stardom is so big that a mediocre season only destroys that.
While in the other hand, the driver himself is still high in his spirits. He thinks that he is fit in his health conditions as well as his mental and psychological state is perfectly good for the pressure and stress of the race track.
However, the Formula One Principal said that he doubts if Schumacher would want to stay after the kind of season, he has had. He added that he thinks it is not actually the driver who must be blamed completely but also the Mercedes car that he had been driving is not the best one for him.
Well, the German’s team as well as his fans still wish to see him coming back to his form and charisma and show some great racing spectacle on the track. Around half the season is yet to go and one could expect anything from him. The question remains, would he want to stay or quit Formula One and this time forever; all depends on his performance.
