Formula One: Felipe Massa Goes Back To Hungary Wrapped In Emotions
It completes a full year of the deadly accident that Felipe Massa had at the Hungarian Grand Prix last year. Twelve months ago, the Brazilian suffered a high-speed terrifying crash which almost claimed his life, as now he returns back to this most unforgettable place of his life, he proclaims it to be an emotional reunion with the medical staff and the organizers who had been quick enough to save his life.
Last year during the qualifying session, a part flew from Ruben Barrichello's Brawn GP car and struck on the helmet of the Brazilian driver, which ran his Ferrari off the track at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Following the accident, he went to coma for over a week suffering from a skull fracture; moreover, he had to battle hard to save the sight in one of his eyes. The crash was severe and initially it seemed that he would never be able to race again.
However, the survivor only missed the rest of the season and was back in the racing arena for this season.
Now, as he returns to Budapest, he expresses that this weekend is very special for him, not for reasons that it reminds him of the accident but because he had been able to survive after it.
The enthusiastic driver talked to the media before heading for Hungary saying that, "My first meeting when I arrive at the Hungaroring circuit will be with all the marshals and medical staff, who did such a very good job of carefully getting me out of the cockpit.”
He added that he is desperately waiting to thank all those people, as he feels a very special bond with all of them.
Well the weekend for Massa could have been much better if it had not been followed by the controversy of last weekend's German Grand Prix, which is still heating the air at the Ferrari team.
The tense air came up after Massa, who was leading the race at Hockenheim, had to slow down after receiving a message from his engineer on the radio insinuating that his teammate Fernando Alonso was faster. He gave way to let Alonso pass on and ultimately bag the victory of the day.
The incident had been taken as a severe team ordering, which is strictly forbidden as per the sport’s regulations. However, Ferrari denied being involved in anything as such, but still they had been fined 100,000 dollars for breaching the rules of the sport by the organisers. Moreover, the case had been further elevated to the World Motor Sport Council for any additional investigation.
However, the two times World Champion, Alonso said that no team ordering is taking place, whereas the team is firmly gelled together and all decisions are made for the best of the team.
Before leaving for the next race Alonso said that, "There was a slight feeling of frustration with this lack of results, but at last in Germany, for once we had a normal race on a weekend when we had no problems whatsoever and the result was there for all to see."
He is also expecting to have another strong finish in Budapest this weekend, as he said that the car is doing brilliantly well and he is in great form and confidence as well.
While commenting on the controversy, he exclaimed that it couldn’t change his approach for the next eight races. He furthermore said that even before the team went to Hockenheim, they knew that their car was much more competitive than many others’ and therefore they would both be able to do pretty good.
The team hopes to see both its drivers perform well, as they move for the next destination of the Formula One caravan this Sunday.
