Formula One: Fernando Alonso – Fingers crossed for 2011 season
After a brilliant comeback by Mercedes winning the Constructor’s title, the Ferrari star, Fernando Alonso is looking into a much competitive four-way battle for the Formula 1 title 2011.
For the season 2010 in the Formula 1 championship, the dominating teams for the Constructor’s title were Red Bull, McLaren and the Ferrari. Red Bull took both the honours with Mercedes failing to register even a single win over the whole season.
However, with their wins of both titles as Brawn in 2009, Alonso predicts that Mercedes shall come back stronger as ever in the next season. Formula 1 season 2010 would have certainly given the Mercedes a lot of experience and expertise to adjust their strategy
accordingly.
Alonso said at the Ferrari World Finals in Valencia, “I expect four teams - us, Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull - will be in the fight for the top."
Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes, all are expected to race with their current driver partnerships in the season 2011.There had been rumours about Felipe Massa that Ferrari might be aiming for his change teaming with their key star Alonso. However,
it is yet to be confirmed as Massa himself has negated and said that he is staying with Scuderia.
The Ferrari team President, Lucas di Montezemolo commented earlier that he is expecting Sebastian Vettel to soon drive a red car. As obvious, the young Formula One 2010 season champion could have been a threat for the former star Fernando Alonso, but he
has negated it saying that he would have no objection being team-mates with Vettel.
Alonso insists, he has no fears of any sort or insecurities about the probable arrival of reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel being in the same squad as his. The two drivers are currently 5/2 joint most favourable to take to their name the 2011 Driver’s
title.
There also had been some running rumours that the young German could make the switch from Red Bull to the Italian team, if not for the upcoming season, yet the most probable contender any time in the future. But Alonso is obstinate that Vettel shall be welcomed
without any fears or grudges when so ever he makes a move.
The Spaniard’s confidence depicts for him being the top scorer for Ferrari and never has been out-scored by a team-mate in his Formula 1 career, hence no reason worthy enough to even fear the young champion.
"I'm not afraid at all of Vettel," he told Spanish media in Oviedo this week. "Should he come to Ferrari one day it won't be a problem, I have nothing to say on that.
But I'm not afraid to face any team-mate, because I've never feared them. None of my team-mates have ever done a single point more than I have, so I don't see why I should be afraid of anyone."
Besides his comments about the country man, Vettel, Alonso also showed his confidence that Ferrari shall be building a car able enough to compete with Red Bull and McLaren, to give him an opportunity for a title shot making him three time Formula One Champion.
"I have no doubts that next year Ferrari will build the car that I want."
He added.
For the season 2011, McLaren will be driven by the English man Lewis Hamilton along with team-mate Jenson Button while Mercedes will be aiming high from veteran Michael Schumacher, who rejoined Formula One after a gap of three years and could not muster
any promising stats in 2010. Nico Rosberg shall be driving the other Ferrari, who amenably proved his guts impressing the team’s failing.
Mark Webber and the defending champion Sebastian Vettel are being tipped to continue with Red Bull despite for their probable switch to another Formula 1 team sooner or latter. Vettel is contracted with Red Bull for the season 2011 and even 2012, but Ferrari
is keen to take Vettel in for Massa in the future to come.
