Formula One: Fernando Alonso calls on help from Felipe Massa
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso currently is on the 2nd spot in the driver’s leader board for F1 2010 season. Alonso said that he would be banking on some help from his team mate Felipe Massa to win the world championship in last 3 races of the season.
In last 2 races, Felipe Massa has not been able to help Alonso at all. Massa’s job is believed to be taking points off Alonso’s title contenders. Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel have been running Fernando close in last 3 races, while Massa has not been
able to get even close to the top.  Felipe Massa encountered an unfortunate gearbox problem at the Singapore Grand Prix during qualifying, and had to start the race at the back of the grid. Later on in last race at Japan he once again had problems with his
car and was out of qualifying, soon after turn one.
Felipe Massa has never had a good race in Japan, and there was no surprise that after the race the Brazilian called it a cursed circuit for him. Massa ended up starting from the 12th position on the grid.
Fernando Alonso has made an open plea of help to his team mate ahead of the Korean Grand Prix, and said that Massa would be an important factor if he is to close down the 14 point gap between him and Mark Webber at top of the table.
"For me it will be important to be able to count on my team-mate Felipe," said Alonso.
"I know that he will be really hoping to make up for two negative results, and he has all the capacities required to return to the podium.”
Alonso went on to say that if the two of them start working on details of the track, it would be easier to work out a strategy for a circuit that is new to everyone. He added that if they can come up with a game plan to outthink the other teams, it may give
them an upper hand. The Spaniard went on to say that, considering how close the title race has become, it is important to focus on every minor detail to get to the world championship.
The 2 time world champion said that in the last 3 races, he would have to be on the offensive, and there is no point in holding back and hoping that other would make a mistake. Alonso said that when he won his first world title, he had to contend with the
best in the business. Fernando Alonso was fighting tooth and nail with the 7 time world champion Michael Schumacher and it was a great achievement for him to beat the master not once but he managed to do it twice in 2 years. Alonso said that those 2 world
titles made him realise that even the best can be beaten, and it is only a matter of proper planning and attacking at the right point.
The former Renault driver said that now there is no more room to slack, he said if he drops any more points the title would be long gone. He added that in the past, it has been a trend with Ferrari that drivers have worked as a team, and if Massa can really
make it count in Korea, it would be a great help.
The Ferrari driver said that there is no doubt that the title race is well and truly on, he said that apart from chasing down Mark Webber he has to also make sure that Sebastian Vettel does not gain any more ground on him. Vettel is level on points with
Alonso with 206 points each, but Alonso is ahead due to more race wins.
