Formula One - Fernando Alonso keeps his fingers crossed for the new Ferrari upgrade
Leading Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso seems confident with his team and believes Ferrari can take the fight with Red Bull to the coming to races.
According to the statistical reports, Red Bull suits the tight and twisty circuits this year, as they were able to outperform all the teams at Monte Carlo and Hungaroring. The team is expected to have the best car for both Singapore and Japanese Grand Prix.
Alonso believes that the significant upgrade to the floor of his Ferrari should make Ferrari quick in every track and hopes his team will do better than the Red Bulls, keeping in mind the two Red Bull drivers are the favourites for this weekend’s Singapore
Grand Prix.
“We now have a package that should work on all types of circuits. We know Red Bull will be very strong at the next two circuits, but we should now be more consistent than we were before. Consistency is the key to this title,” the Spaniard is quoted by
Auto Motor und Sport.
The Spaniard is looking good after his thrashing win at the Italian Grand Prix that is the home Grand Prix of his team Ferrari. He was delighted with his result, since his rivals were not able to score many points. Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire after
his collision with Felipe Massa in the first lap, breaking his steering that caused him to run off the track. Mark Webber finished in 6th place scoring just 8 points. Since both of the leading drivers did not score much, Jenson Button, Sebastian
Vettel and Fernando Alonso now have a better chance of taking a shot at the title. This season has been quite a spectacle, since the new point scoring system was introduced and all the teams are struggling to perform consistently due to the new physical rules
as well. The teams are not allowed to use flexi-wings but many teams have introduced their own technologies in every field. Like McLaren have introduced the F-duct that has been the highlight invention of this season. It allows the driver to control the wings
angle and drag force, using his leg enabling the car to achieve greater speed in the long straights. Red Bull introduced the blown diffuser followed by many teams, making their own versions of the two inventions.
Due to these advancements, some teams perform better at high-speed tracks while, others perform better on the slower tracks with tight corners. The Championship is shaping up to a h**l of a ride, since the top five drivers are still alive in the chase for
the drivers’ title, especially after the Italian Grand Prix. The Australian driver Mark Webber is currently leading the drivers’ standings with 187 point in front of Lewis Hamilton with 182 points. The top two are followed by Fernando Alonso in 3rd
place with 166 points, Jenson Button in 4th place with 165 points and Sebastian Vettel in 5th with 163 points in the drivers’ standings.  Hence, the top five are just divided by 24 points. However, the constructors’ title hunt seems like
a two horse race, as Red Bull leads the standings with 350 points followed by McLaren just 3 points behind them.
However, Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali stated that Ferrari is yet to make sure the updates work up to their expectations after the ones used at Spa Francorchamps did not offer their full ability, until further development at the Italian Grand Prix.
“We need to avoid a repeat of what happened in Belgium, where our developments failed to give us what we expected because we weren't able to test them. It's impossible to predict what will happen because there are so many variables at play,” he said.
The team boss confirmed that the F10’s further developments are “aerodynamic” in nature situated “at the bottom of the car.”
