Formula One: Ferrari Looking Forward For a Great Race at Hockenheim
The 2010 Formula One season has unfolded amidst great drama and thrill. Half of the season has already gone and still it is tough to make any prediction for a champion. The cars are now heading towards the eleventh race of the year scheduled to take place this Sunday at the Hockenheim Circuit in Germany.
The track had its last attendance on the Formula One calendar in the year 2008, when Lewis Hamilton of McLaren was able to bag a victory. This year, as the caravan moves to its next destination, many of the teams feel thrilled and excited as the competition is getting intense and unpredictable with every passing race of the season. As the teams move for the next race, the Formula One official website talked to some of the teams and here is what Ferrari had to say prior to the race:
Felipe Massa:
The driver who has not had a lot of luck the past three races said that at the moment all he wishes is to have a smooth race with no mishaps. He added that it was strange for a driver to say this, but at the moment, all he wants is to have a nicely finished race. He had gone short of luck both at Silverstone, as well as at Montreal, as he faced collisions at the start of both the races. However, in Valencia his race was ruined by the bad timing of the safety car.
In all these past few races, Massa had been able to do pretty well in the practice sessions thus proving that he has a good competitive car yet on the final race day, he went unlucky and had not been able to earn some good points.
Fernando Alonso:
Alonso said that he admits the fact that this season the competition is very tough, some of the teams and drivers had been able to do very good. However, he said that he is hopeful and confident as the car is doing well and despite the bad finish for the team in the past few races, the morale of the team is still high.
Alonso, who had the season opener in Bahrain finished at first place giving the team a great start, had a poor race earlier this month at Silver stone as he was hardly able to finish the race at fourteenth place.
At the moment, though the team stands at third place in the Constructors’ Championship but the difference of the top three teams is increasing with every passing race. The team had been able to bag a total of one sixty five points so far, whereas it follows the tail of McLaren, that stands at first place with a total of two hundred and seventy eight points and Red Bull securing second place with two hundred and forty nine points.
Though Ferrari stands short of eighty four points from that of the Red Bull’s and a big difference of one hundred and thirteen points exist between Ferrari and McLaren. Still the team is heading for the next race in full zeal and zest, determined to at least keep stuck to the third position in the standings even if not able to surpass the toppers.
The car and drivers of both the leading teams this season had been brilliant and since Ferrari had not been able to score any more than nineteen points in the last three races, their threat for this years’ championship has also lowered.
Well, there is only one more day to go and the action would unfold at the circuit of Hockenheim, Germany. The circuit which has always been a favourite of the teams and drivers with its long straights and slow corners wait to hail the next racing show of the season.
