Formula One: Ferrari announces their Straight-Line Test at Vairano
Ferrari has announced to carry their next test for a straight-line aerodynamic at Vairano, Italy after the disappointing performance that the team had at the Belgian Grand Prix, held at Spa last Sunday.
Fernando Alonso, who had high hopes of bringing home the World Championship title during his debut season at Ferrari, seems much distressed, for his retirement in the last race was a massive blow for him, as it made his battle for the title far tougher. The race was started by the driver from tenth place on the grid after a poor qualifying and later he failed to finish the race, at the thirty seventh lap of the race, the Italian driver crashed into the barriers thus winding up the thirteenth round of the season pointless.
The next race of the season, the Italian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at Monza in a two weeks’ time. The team has its headquarters in Italy, so close to the track of Monza that many call the team to be stationed at the back yard of the track. Now, as they move for their home race, they are hoping to hit back in a fortnight and utilise their last permitted straight-line aerodynamic test, so that some of the prevailing problems could be overcome.
However, FIA had banned the in-season tests yet all the teams were allowed to conduct six one-day tests for the straight-line aerodynamic, of which Ferrari still has one left.
After the disappointing weekend that they had at Spa, Ferrari stated on their official website, “One can never count on new solutions that have never been track-tested before immediately delivering results: that has been the case several times this year for all the teams.”
Moreover, the other reason that the team gives for their poor performance is the unpredictable weather that Spa always presented. During the free practices of Friday, the heavy rain falls did not let the team engineers get any certain statistics for the final race day.
Now, the team has a lot of hope from their upcoming aero test that is to be conducted at Vairano, as they plan to collect as much data as possible so that they can further improvise their aerodynamic configuration, which they are planning to use for the Italian Grand Prix.
Though the team has not given any fixed date for the test, yet they have suggested carrying it in the next two to three days.
