Formula One: Ferrari dominates the inaugural Korean Grand Prix
Ferrari driver and two times world champion Fernando Alonso stole the victory away from the German driver Sebastian Vettel after the Red Bull driver retired after an engine failure after leading the race for over 75% of the race. Alonso was in 2nd
place before that, as Mark Webber also retired giving the Red Bull a pointless finish at the inaugural race.
The race was a disaster for both of the Red Bull drivers, as they were unable to finish and their rivals Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton finished the race with maximum points as in 1st and 2nd places respectively. They were followed
by Felipe Massa in 3rd place to give Ferrari 2 spots on the podium.
This is bad news for Red Bull as this retirement cost the Australian driver the drivers’ championship lead and is now in second place 11 points behind Fernando Alonso who is now the new championship leader. Lewis Hamilton is now in 3rd place just
21 points behind the championship leader, while Sebastian Vettel is in 4th place 25 points adrift.
On the other hand, Jenson Button had a disastrous race as he was not even able to finish in 10th place. It was quite a disappointing performance by the reigning world champion because of which, we can consider him out of the championship chase
this season. This means that he will not be able to defend his title and by the looks of it, Fernando Alonso is in the strongest position of winning the title as he has been the strongest driver in the second half of the season. He has 5 wins to his credit
now and most importantly, Fernando has proved that he is the best driver on track whether it’s a slippery wet track or a warm track under dry conditions.
The championship chase will continue as the drivers head to Brazil for the Brazilian Grand Prix at the famous Interlagos circuit. With Ferrari currently on top, Red Bull will have to come up with a strategy that would support both of their drivers. However,
after Button’s disappointing performance, it would be better for McLaren to prefer Lewis over the reigning champion as he is their only hope. It would be interesting to see what Jenson has to say about this race at the press conferences that follow the race.
