Formula One: Ferrari workers on toes… despite the festive season
Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro plans to finish the work on its 2011 car in the last week of January. On the 1st of February, 2011, the car will touch the track for its first testing at the “Ricardo Tormo” Circuit in Cheste, near Valencia.
The team has met a very demanding 2010 season, everyone worked hard but still it wrapped up in much disappointment. After having a lulled mid season, the Italian squad entered into the battle with a very controversial 1-2 finish in Germany. This second victory
of the season brought Fernando Alonso back to the tug of the title. At one after the other races the Spanish driver kept gaining podiums and race wins and it was not very late that he made his way from his initial fifth place to the top of the points’ tally.
However, the last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, came with a big blow of hard luck for the team. Alonso entered the race being at the top of the tally. As the Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel won this last round, the Ferrari driver only needed
to wrap up at 3rd place to win the championship. However, the poor race strategy of the team, and a clever driving by the Renault driver, Vitaly Petrov, did not permit Alonso to end anywhere above 7th place. The hard work of the team
as well as the driver did not pay back as the Red Bull bagged both the championships.
The team believes that the failure taught it some good lessons that will help it in the upcoming season. Above all, Ferrari now knows that it is not wise to start the fight at the middle of the season. It is ready to come up with a real competitive car right
from the beginning to stay at the peak of the tally from the very first race of the season, the Bahrain Grand Prix.
This resolution has not only kept the team striving hard since the end of the 2010 season, but has also kept the entire crew on toes over the festive Christmas period. The factory hardly ever closed all this time as some of the men continued working on the
design and structure of the new car. Moreover, work on parts production is also done and very soon the initial crash testing will begin.
The full strength of the factory workers was back at their posts this Monday, as the Ferrari team boss announced that the car must be ready to flee on the track by the last week of January.
