Formula One - Force India not to use F-duct at Monza
Force India is thinking of leaving their F-duct behind, as they move ahead to the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks time.
Monza, the track where the next race is to be held offers a very low downforce due to which several other teams like McLaren, Renault and Sauber have already declared that they are hoping to opt for a non F-duct package, as there is no advantage of taking the device along with them.
However, it is thought that the F-duct system that Force India uses is more efficient than what the other teams have, which was evident at the long straights of Belgian Grand Prix.
Nonetheless, the Force India driver Tonio Liuzzi told the official website of ESPN that as per the team’s early calculations the advantage that F-duct could offer at Monza is negligible.
Liuzzi stated, "We are thinking about removing it. It is definitely one of those tracks where it is not going to work as well as at other circuits, because the downforce level is much lower than any other circuit. It's not going to be a big thing there. It depends, we are doing a lot of simulation to understand, if it is a good thing to use but we are still 50/50."
Liuzzi faced a few problems with his F-duct, while practicing at Spa-Francorchamps although his teammate Adrian Sutil did pretty well with the device.
"I was losing one second or more due to a problem with the F-duct," he accepted.
He furthermore told that the team was very efficient to find out the problems that he faced during the practice and worked all through night and day to fix the car again." He continued saying, “The team did such a good job to work night and day to give me the best possible car they could.”
However, he believes that the F-duct is a complex item and the team had to go through a lot of mess to fix it up at Spa and lost a lot of time and energy for the problem, yet it was not working 100% at the qualifying. “It was still creating problems during the race and we were conscious right from the start that we would not be getting the very best from the car," he went on saying.
Well, as the team moves ahead the driver suggested that it is a very right decision for the team to let the f-duct rest behind as they move ahead for Monza, believing to use it at some other race later where it can suit the track better.
