Formula One: German GP- Ferrari Bags Their Second Victory of the Season
The day had been a great one for the red team, Ferrari was able to bag their second victory of the season at the German Grand Prix unveiled at Hockenheim today. They were able to have a double treat as the team snatched a one –two win after the nerve tickling and nail biting head to head race of the weekend.
The Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso was able to claim the race win, whereas his teammate, Felipe Massa was able to grab second position on the podium. The team was able to claim their first victory of the season in the season starter, at Bahrain and it took the team ten races to repeat the nd.
The third place was grabbed by Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull, who had not been able to win a race after his initial two victories, though he had been giving a very consistent performance all through the season.
The aggressive young man, who stood the winner of the 2008 season of the German Grand Prix, though was able to bag the fourth place of the day, who returned happy as he had been able to keep his top position at the Drivers’ Championship secure. His total points of the season after unfolding of the eleventh race is one hundred and fifty seven, while his teammate had been able to secure a total of one hundred and forty three points, so he has also safeguarded his second place in the annual standings of the drivers even if he finished at fifth place here.
The Red Bull driver and the only racer to have bagged three race wins of the season, Webber was unlucky in Germany, as he faced engine problem and despite having the fastest car of the season, he was hardly able to end at sixth place. Well, that’s an interesting fact that now both the team drivers hold third position in the Drivers’ Championship with a total of one hundred and thirty six points.
Overall the race was not without the spice and heat of rivalry and speed as during the early laps of the race Vettel squeezed Alonso towards the pit wall, whereas Massa took the opportunity to move past them both and was able to maintain the lead till near the end of the race.
Well, one man who was not seen in his full form on the track was Hamilton of McLaren; he was not able to catch enough speed to interrupt between the top three racers of the day, while on the other hand his team member, Button was able to give a tough race to the Red Bull’s Webber.
Behind them the Renault and Mercedes GP had their battle for the middle positions and Renault ended sandwiching both the German drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher, thus giving them the finish of eighth and nine places, respectively. Renault’s Robert Kubica took seventh place, whereas his teammate took tenth.
Pedro de la Rosa of BMW Sauber switched to the option tyres on the 51st lap of the total 67 laps, while having almost the entire race on the hard tyres of Bridgestone, which made him drop from seventh to fourteenth place. Heikki Kovalainen had poor luck, as he had to change the front wing and finally the Lotus driver had to retire in addition to his team mate Jarno Trulli, who had to stop a little earlier.
Kamui Kobayashi spotted 11th place in his BMW. Sauber, one place before Williams’ Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg, as both lost right at the start of the race, when there was a massive booming of the two Force Indias with the two Toro Rossos resulting in the loss of the rear wing of Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buem., However, Jaime Alguersuari was successful in taking 15th place. He was followed by Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil, the Force India’s driver.
Overall, the race of a mix of surprise as well as adventure and with these unpredicted results the suspense of the season has further enhanced.
