Formula One – Is the summer break a blessing in disguise for Ferrari?
Many of the teams are delighted and happy as Formula One racing moves for a fortnight summer break in August. The tracks are deserted and team factories have come to a shuddering halt until the drivers and crew members relax with their families and friends during the self-imposed shutdown. At the moment when many of the racers and teams are comforting and soothing their bodies and minds, Ferrari seems a little restless.
The team had only recently rediscovered their form and strength. After having bagged victory at the first race of the season, the team was not able to shine through the rest of the year, despite their bright comeback last month.
Now many analysts believe that the two-week holiday might prove costly for the team however, the team principal Stefano Domenicali has an opposite view, as he says that the rest could prove productive and the team would come back with a new spirit and soul.
While talking through the official website of Ferrari Dominical told “We will be on holiday, but that does not mean our brains will stop working.” He added on, “Maybe one can even find fresh inspiration when outside the usual working environment, and I expect this time to be a fertile one for ideas, which make the most difference.”
The principal of the Italian team already considers the team moving on the “right track”, and following the shutdown, the team members would come up with new bright ideas. Domenicali believes everybody in the team had worked really hard all through the season, especially in July they had worked around the clock, and now the break is necessary for all of them. He seems very optimistic for his F10 claiming that it would get even better when they resume racing after two weeks of vacation.
Ferrari had not been able to grab a lot many points after the first race of the season while the second half of July brought a purple patch for the team, as they were able to have a one two finish in Germany and later they secured second and forth places in Hungary as well. The ending at the German Grand Prix served well for the team, although it was full of controversy and the team was fined, yet it brought a new impetus for the rest of the season.
The team principal continued saying that he understands the fact that they would need to work harder to snatch the title of the year as they still do not have the best car of the season. He said that they are fast, faster than a lot many yet, not the fastest on the track.
Fernando Alonso, the team’s driver who ended at first place on the podium in Germany and secured second place in Hungary, currently stands twenty-points shy of standings’ leader Mark Webber; however he is looking forward for some encouraging stats when he returns to racing.
“It won’t be possible to switch off my mind completely over these two weeks,” told Alonso to the Formula One official website. He continued saying that he is trying to relax and do a bit of sport once in a day but only for ten minutes. Alonso added that next race of Belgium is running in his mind.
Well, hopefully all the teams are thinking the same especially the top five drivers of the standings, as they separate from each other by just twenty points.
