Formula One: Jenson Button’s championship chase comes to a pointless end
The reigning world champion Jenson Button’s 17-race long championship chase finally came to an end at the inaugural Korean Grand Prix, as he was unable to score a single point after qualifying in 7th place. Jenson Button was already 31 points
adrift from Mark Webber, who was leading the championship before the Korean Grand Prix but after the inaugural race at the Korean International circuit, it will only take a miracle for Jenson to win the 2010 championship.
The race saw many unfortunate incidents with just 15 drivers finishing the race after 9 retirements including the two Red Bull drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. The race was quite eventful as the rain hit the track since the beginning of the track
causing a number of restarts after a couple of safety car periods in the 55 laps race. The race was quite entertaining as the drivers were slipping off the so called slipperiest track ever designed.
The track was given a controversial green signal just two weeks before the race. Due to the uncertain wet conditions, the track turned into a pit of death. The drivers were finding it difficult to find the braking points on the wet track, since they do not
have much experience driving on the inaugural venue in Yeongam.
As Fernando Alonso won the race after Sebastian Vettel retired due to a mechanical failure, Fernando snatched the lead from Mark Webber and is now leading the pack with 231 points. Jenson Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton finished in 2nd place
and is now in 3rd place just 21 points behind the championship leader. Sebastian Vettel is in 4th place 25 points adrift of Fernando.
Jenson Button is now 42 points behind the new championship leader Fernando Alonso and there is no way the current world champion can recover from this deficit. The best option for him would be to help his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who is just 21 points adrift
from the Fernando in his chase for the drivers’ championship.
The championship took a vital turn after the Korean Grand Prix, as there are just 4 drivers remaining in the championship now divided by just 25 points. The final two races in Brazil and Abu Dhabi are going to be nerve racking!
