Formula One: Korean Grand Prix- Grid positions after qualifying
The very exciting and thrilling round of the season, the Korean Grand Prix gets ready to unfold this Sunday at the newly built track of the country. The Saturday afternoon saw the final fight for the grid positions at the newly built Korean International
Circuit. Amidst a lot of fervour and anticipation, the qualifying session took place just a little while ago.
The Red Bull drivers were able to stamp their dominance on the track once again. Both the team men were seen fully determined while their RB6 was fast and furious once again. Sebastian Vettel secured the pole position for tomorrow’s race with making his
fastest lap in Q3 in 1:35.585s. On the other hand, his teammate, Mark Webber saved second position with 1:35.659s in the second Red Bull car.
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was quick all through the qualifying and till the very last moments he had lead but lost it only at the final few seconds to the Red Bulls being only 0.181s adrift Vettel. At the same time, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton who was very
fast during Q1 and Q2, lost pace at the third section and finally settled himself at 4th place on the grid.
However, the day had been encouraging for both Alonso and Hamilton, as they demonstrated great pace at the early sections thus threatening the two Red Bull men for the start of tomorrow’s race.
The other McLaren driver was not able to do very well as he finished only at 7th place. But one cannot forget that qualifying has never been his strength and the race day always sees him much better than Saturdays.
Button’s low pass gave Nico Rosberg fifth place, followed by Felipe Massa of Ferrari who marked his best in 1:36.571s settling at sixth slot.
The disappointment of the qualifying was Robert Kubica who drove his Renault brilliantly during the practices however poor qualifying placed him only at 8th place on the grid. The two old Ferrari teammates and now bitter rivals, Michael Schumacher
and Rubens Barrichello ended close together at 9th and 10th places.
Nico Hulkenberg would be seen at 11th on the grid tomorrow followed by the two Sauber drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Nick Heidfeld.
Adrian Sutil in his Force India was another disappointment of the day ending at 14th place followed by Vitaly Petrov of Renault. The Toro Rosso pair made only up to 16th ad 17th place and was followed by the Vitantonio Liuzzi in
the second Force India.
At the last few places of the tally stood the couples of HRT, Virgin and Lotus.
