Formula One: Lewis Hamilton gets a 5 place penalty on the grid
The McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton got a 5 place penalty due to a gearbox change after the qualifying session. The British driver was facing some transmission problems, so there was no choice left for the team but to change the gearbox and receive a five
place penalty from the stewards.
Lewis will now start from 8th position on the grid and it seems that luck is not on his side once again this weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix. The British driver was hoping to redeem himself, as he thought that the Japanese Grand Prix was an
“unfinished business” for him but it seems that this unfinished business will have to wait for another year.
The former world champion was struggling all weekend as he crashed his McLaren in the first practice session this Friday due to which, he had to miss the other two practice sessions. This cost him some valuable time as he could not test the new wings his
team introduced for the weekend and because of the rain, the qualifying session had to be postponed until Sunday right before the race.
The drivers were already scheduled for a tough and difficult race day and on top of that, with a five place penalty, Lewis will have a mental disadvantage over the rest of the drivers on the grid. However, as we all know Hamilton, he still believes that
he can pull it off and so does his team but that will not be possible for a victory unless McLaren has something big up their sleeves.
With the race set to take place in just a couple of hours, McLaren must think thoroughly about their options regarding Lewis as Jenson Button qualified in 6th place on the grid. As we all know, Jenson is not an aggressive driver and usually struggles
to make his way up the grid. It is all up to Lewis now, as he is the only man who can save McLaren and keep its hopes alive if they want to win even a single title this season.
Hamilton is already in third place almost 20 points behind the leader Mark Webber and is struggling to perform since the past 4 grand prix, if he does not do something to save his team at Suzuka, he will be showered with criticism once more by the end of
the week and Lewis does not want that to happen again.
