Formula One: Lewis Hamilton left 2010’s worries behind- Martin Whitmarsh
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh expressed full faith in his team driver, Lewis Hamilton. Whitmarsh believes that all the blues of last year have gone off now, and the driver is ready to enter the next season’s battle with new spirit and determination.
The 2010 season did not end brilliantly for the British driver. After having stayed at the top of the tally for a large part of the season, he was wrapped the season nowhere better than 4th place. His teammate and fellow citizen, Jenson Button lost the championship
battle even before the end of the last race, and ended the season finally at 5th place, catching the tail of his teammate. This made the team come home for the Christmas season empty handed as the Austrian squad, the Red Bull Racing bagged both,
the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship.
However, while talking to the media earlier today the team boss said that last year’s abortive season taught them several valuable lessons. He assured that unlike last year, this season the team will be focusing on the car development right from the beginning
of the season. He further stated that the team is adamant to keep improving the team car all through the year, which is the only way to dominate the 2011 tracks.
While talking about the performance of the McLaren ace driver, Hamilton, Whitmarsh stated  that he agrees that his personal life had not been very smooth lately, which has affected his on track performance. However, he added that things are improving now
and the next season will not see the issues of last year again. The most disturbing of all the issues for the driver, last year, was his decision to discontinue using the services of his father, Anthony Hamilton as his manager.
The team boss believes that problems took its toll and now things are moving towards betterment. He said,
"I think it is well publicised that Lewis had a number of issues… He is still a very young man. I think he is finding his way as a motor racing driver and in his life, and I think he had some cause for distraction.”
While talking about the Briton’s performance last year and expectations for the upcoming season, Whitmarsh stated,
"But overall I don't think Lewis should be too dissatisfied with his performance. He had some fantastic races and we all know what a superstar he is, and how tough he will be on himself. Just as Jenson [Button] was tough on himself and disappointed about
his end of the season, just as I am tough on myself and the performance of the team.”
