Formula One: Mark Webber joins the mind games ahead of Britain GP
Webber is in agreement with Damon Hills prediction that the two top competitors going to the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button, could witness a severed friendship.
Hill stated that it is not easy maintaining a warm and friendly relationship with a team- mate who is a title rival. As when you are waging against each other and trying to win the top spot there would be some healthy competition amongst the players.
The former world champion Hill also mentioned in a statement earlier this week that there was enmity on the rise between the two McLaren leaders. Hill further went on to add that the rivalry had just begun and it would soon become visible to all. In a competition, the audience has to pick a favourite and the players have to secure the top spot. Friendly competition takes place everywhere and is inevitable.
Mark Webber has voiced his opinion upon his personal experiences so far in the season with his team member Sebastian Vettel. These two are currently on the fourth and third positions in the championship, while the McLaren duo Hamilton and Button are at the two top spots. Their relationship faced rocky waters during the Turkish Grand Prix, when Sebastian Vettel tried to overtake Mark Webber causing the McLarens to take home the first and second positions respectively. Mark Webber came third in the competition while Sebastian Vettel could not even finish the race.
Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel had to face remarks of the Red Bull officials, who became engulfed in determining who was responsible for the dramatic loss at the Turkish Grand Prix. The incident didn’t cause any serious drama in the team or between the two players. There is however a healthy competition amongst Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
Webber further added that if there was a situation where Vettel’s life was in danger, he would go to any length to save him. As they were not hungry for each other’s blood, he went on to state that they don’t hate each other but when you are competing in a race then yes you are standing on the opposite ends. The Lotus drivers according to Webber don’t have much of a problem, as their not a tough competition to each other due to their positioning in the sport and thus can maintain a friendly relationship with each other.
Mark Webber feels that there would be a silent war amongst the McLaren duo, which would be against the picture the McLaren officials are trying to paint for the viewers and followers of the sport. It’s a publicity stunt for the upcoming home race which would cause a favourable hype for the McLaren’s. A friendship between the current world champion ‘Jensen Button’ and the former champion ‘Lewis Hamilton’.
Christian Horner, the Red Bull’s team chief, is in agreement with Mark Webber, as he thought on similar notes that a small twist would cause high tensions between the famous McLaren team-mates. He added that Hamilton & Button are competitive drivers and would try to win at any cost. The McLarens according to Horner don’t have a number one or two driver yet, as Jensen Button wouldn’t have signed a contract with McLaren for such a position. In competitive sport, added Horner, it is the fate of every player to push each other’s limits resulting in an unfriendly quotient. One small snitch and you would witness a scene between the McLaren team-mates.
Button and Hamilton after hearing Webber’s comments last Thursday couldn’t stop themselves from laughing. There have also been no official statements made by the McLaren officials on the tensions between their two top players.
