Formula One: Massa Vows to End Racing If He Would Be ‘Number Two Driver’
As the Formula One caravan moves to its next destination for the Hungaroring Grand prix, the battle for the title becomes more intense and severe. The teams as well as the drivers are ready to beat anything and anybody that comes in their way. Just at the time when the spirits and morale of the drivers as well as the teams is rising, the controversies and conflicts amidst the Formula One rally is witnessed to rise higher than ever before.
Earlier this year it was the Red Bull team that was found entangled in the in-team fights and conflicts, which resulted in their losing the top positions of the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship and now it is the Ferrari Team, that had been caught in the latest controversies of the season.
Just as Felipe Massa, the Ferrari team-driver reached Hockenheim, Hungary, where he miraculously survived a life claiming accident last year; he was seen clearing his position as not being the ‘number two’ driver in his team.
Last weekend, the team had been accused of ordering and thus affecting the race results, which is strictly forbidden as per the FIA rules. Massa, during the 49th lap, slowed down after receiving the radio message from his team, which stated that his team mate, Fernando Alonso was coming faster. This resulted in his second place finish, while Alonso was able to get victory of the day, thanks to Massa’s assist.
Now as Massa talked to the reporters prior to the race he said, “There’s no real point in going back to last weekend.” He further elaborated saying that, “We need to think about the present. I think we have spoken a lot about what’s happened in the last race. So yes, I will fight for victory here in whatever conditions.”
He cleared his position by saying that by no means was he working for his team mate, rather he was only working for the team and he thinks that it was important to help the team elevate. He continued saying that the team was working very hard and they still had the chance of winning the championship, so he would want to do his the best for the team.
He said that things had already been discussed in the team thoroughly and the air has been cleared. He insisted that he himself as well as the team knows well that he was not there just to race rather he was there to win.“That’s really my point”, he stressed.
He emphasized on the fact that as long as he was in the condition to win, he would keep the fight going on for victory and at any time when he would feel that now the condition is different, he would shift all his support and assistance to give the best to his team.
He proclaimed that, he works for the team, he was professional and he believes that everybody out there understands the responsibility that one has when it comes to do the best in the favour of the team.
He was further asked about the future strategy of the team, if he would do the same thing and let Fernando Alonso get the win if a similar situation is faced again for having a one-two finish for Ferrari, for this he assured, “I will win.”
He concluded the session by very firmly adding, “The time when I say I am number-two driver, I will not race any more. So I am not. To be honest, all of you are trying to put words in my mouth. I have my thinking and will not really go through all these points, because it’s not the case.”
