Formula One - Massa ready to enter Spa with a new spirit
Two more days to go and the next race of the season would start unfolding on the Spa- Francorchamps track, marking the thirteenth race of this season. With this race the Championship is to enter the last and the most crucial part of the year, the one that is to play the final decisive role towards choosing the World Champion of 2010.
The teams now return from the three week long summer break with a new spirit and zest for the Belgian Grand Prix. The long straights of the track and its much demanding corners, coupled with the ever-changing weather conditions make it a legendary track of the Formula One calendar. It has always been the toughest as well as the most favourite track for not only the drivers but also the race lovers.
Before the teams head for the track, Formula One website talked to Felipe Massa of Ferrari about his summer break and his expectations for the upcoming race as well as for the rest of the season.
While expressing his views for the upcoming race he told, “Although it was a very quiet holiday, I am fully prepared for this weekend in Spa.”
The Brazilian driver further added that all through the three weeks of the break he has stayed in touch with the engineers of his team, even though the factory was closed. He further added that he feels quite confident as the team is coming up with some great new pieces in the car as a part of the ever-going development program on the F10.
He went on to say that he thinks all the drivers at Formula One adore the track for its unique features. The fabulous circuit allows high speed at its long straights with less down force and the Ferrari driver is excited as the team has shown some great races here in the past few years.
However, he explained that the current situation of the charts is very tense as the battle for the title is tough with all the top three teams being equally competitive and the top five drivers of the season stand with just a difference of twenty points.
The 29-year-old driver has previously won the 2008 race on this track, which is why he has expressed to the press his affiliation with the track. However, last year he was not able to race here, as he met a terrible accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July and had to skip the remaining races of the season. Now as he enters here again, he seems thrilled despite the tough month that the team had and especially after all that Massa had gone through since the German Grand Prix where the team was accused of team orders.
He accepted the fact that the team as well as both the drivers feel a lot of pressure with the kind of situation they are into now. However, he believes that they are well-equipped with the attitude required to face such pressure by staying focused towards their goal.
He concluded saying that the storm of controversies that have been directed towards them after the German race could only be tackled if they are able to perform pretty well and earn some good points. He admitted the fact that many of their fans are much offended and are being further misled by the way the media and their competitors are fuelling the issue. He believes that now only great racing would heal the sentiments of the fans because at the end of the day this is what they come to see.
