Formula One: McLaren Ready to Beat Anyone Who Comes In Their Way
The McLarens are happy and hopeful. After the cold and rainy weekend in Germany, the team heads with the Formula One convoy for some warm and sunny days in Hungary.
Before the team moves towards its next destination, the team drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton as well as their principal, Martin Whitmarsh, talked to the Formula One official website, expressing their views as well as their expectations from the upcoming race.
Jenson Button:
Button, the McLaren driver, currently stands at second place in the Drivers’ Championship with a total of one hundred and forty three points. He had been able to bag two race wins in the ongoing season, stood seventh in Hungary during the last year’s race, however, his first Grand Prix win ever, was in Hungary.
He expressed that this place is the most special one for him, as it gave him his first Formula One victory. He added that the moment is as vivid in his mind, as if it was a yesterday’s matter, he could never forget the reactions of everyone around him, they were jubilant and it was hard to believe that it was true, “It was a great moment in my career” he expressed.
While commenting on the track he said that it was a good one, where one needs to drive with a lot of control, as there are some very high kerbs. He was happy to add that it was a high-down force track, so the grip of the car here would be very good and their car would be able to do very well here.
Lewis Hamilton:
The winner of last year’s race enters this year with being at the top of the Drivers’ Championship with a total of one hundred and fifty seven points. Last year as well, he had been lucky on the track, as he was able to bag victory in Hungary once again.
Before he moved for the race, he said that he had always loved racing in Hungary. Budapest is a fantastic, beautiful city, as well as its circuit is quite unique.
Furthermore, while describing the track he said that it is famous for being slow and not letting over take. While he believed that it was not true, as per him the track offers a couple of high-speed corners, as well as there are parts where passing was definitely possible, though not very easy.
He added happily that he was able to win there in 2007 and also at the last year’s race, he stood victorious therefore, he is looking forward for a great weekend this year as well.
Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren team principal:
If one looks at the stats of the team, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have normally had good luck at the Hungarian track. Lewis had been able to bag two wins there and then in the year 2008, Heikki won there with McLaren.
The team principal now thinks that they are again looking for a purple patch for the upcoming race.
He accepted the fact that they were left behind their rivals in the terms of pace at Hockenheim, however they expect the MP4-25 to perform better in Budapest due to its high-down force configuration.
He was also glad to express that the team has had one race successfully with the blown diffuser and have also collected enough data to further take the concept forward.
Finally, as the toppers of both the championships so far, they move towards the 12th race of the season, ready to beat everyone who comes in their way, as they wish to cement their top positions in even further.
Well, a few more days to go and the race fans would be able to witness a brutal battle of cars in the beautiful layout of Hungary.
