Formula One: McLaren Ready to Show Wonders With Their Upgraded Car
The year had been a good one for McLaren right from the start but things have started to twist and turn now. The last grand Prix in Hungary had not gone as expected by the team.  They lost their top position in both of the Championships, as well as their car proved not to be a very competitive one, when it comes to be head to head with the other teams such as Ferrari and especially Red Bull.
Besides all this, the British team seems hopeful and determined as they move to the next race of the season scheduled to be held this weekend in Spa, Belgium.
The McLaren driver and the title defender, Jenson Button does not hold a great memory of the track from last year, as he was only able to start the race from 14th place and had to retire from the race.
Now as they enter the track once again he seems determined, as they know that they have some catching-up to be done. He further told that the last race of Hungary taught them some good lessons which definitely would be beneficial for them for this year.
He was also much optimistic as he said that he thinks the tracks of Spa and Monza are going to suit their car better than the Hungaroring and hence, they would be able to gain the lost momentum as well as their top position back once again.
“I love racing at Spa - it’s one of the truly great circuits, and a Grand Prix that I’d love to win,” said the British driver.
The other McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton who had also not won any of the races on this track during his brief yet successful career in Formula One seems much boosted, as he enters the race this weekend. While talking to the Formula One official website he said that the team is looking forward for entering the title fight back in full power and passion.
The 2008 world champion further added that their car has seen some considerable improvement for the remainder of the season and this makes them very optimistic.
Moreover, he explained, “Neither Jenson or I had a great race at Spa last year - I didn’t see much of it from the cockpit, but I think Jenson was pushed into a spin from behind at Les Combes and the resulting accident took me out too. So it was weird to watch the whole race back in the garage.”
However, this year he is hoping to have a much better race, as it is very essential for the team to earn some good points in order to stay in the race for championship of the season.
The McLaren team boss, Martin Whitmarsh, also expressed his views for the upcoming race, saying that the summer break provided the whole team with a well deserved rest period. It also gave the engineers some good time for consideration for how to close the difference of points among all the teams. In addition, he added that the downtime proved very useful for carrying out some maintenance work in the wind tunnel, which would improves the correlation of the car.
He concluded saying that, “After a disappointing Hungarian Grand Prix, we are pushing hard to regain the performance relative to our rivals that we had enjoyed earlier this season. While we believe our recent upgrades have given us a down force improvement, it appears that the package hasn’t yet delivered to its full potential, particularly in terms of providing the drivers with a consistent, confidence-delivering platform.”
Well, five more days to go and we will see if the team would be able to show wonders on the track.
