Formula One: McLaren not as fast as Ferrari and Red Bull – Lewis Hamilton
The 2008 world champion has faced some consistency problems since the past few races but was able to score some good points at the Korean Grand Prix last weekend after finishing in 2nd place behind Fernando Alonso.
Lewis admitted that he has a tough task ahead of him as he has to close the 21 point gap between him and Fernando Alonso in the drivers’ standings. Lewis is currently 10 points short of the Australian driver Mark Webber as well however, as always, he believes
that he can still do it in the final two races but stated that his team is still not as fast as the Ferraris or Red Bulls.
“It's going to be tough - we saw again in Korea that we've probably only got the third-fastest car, so we're probably not the favourites - but that's okay,”
Hamilton told his official website.
The British driver has been in Formula 1 since 2007 and proved that he is a future world champion in his debut season as he led the championship until the very final race but lost it because he retired due to a gearbox failure. However, Lewis was able to
secure the championship the following year where he was again, leading the championship until the very final race. He was just about to lose the title but took the 5th place on the final corner of the final lap to take the title by just 1 point
over Felipe Massa.
Lewis is hoping for some upgrades at the Brazilian grand prix this year to enable him to experience the happy moments once again at the Interlagos circuit. His team has been coming up with new upgrades quite often this year and they hope they will bring
some more for Brazil.
“But I'm going to enjoy pushing - I've had some good races in Brazil, it's a place where you can really make a charge work, so I go there feeling very optimistic and hopeful of another good showing,” said Lewis.
The former world champion believes that it would be a big achievement for the team to win the race at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“At this stage, the aim has to be to go to Abu Dhabi with a mathematical possibility of winning the title. As we've seen so many times before, anything can happen at the final race, so Brazil will be all about prolonging the challenge and then maximizing
everything for Abu Dhabi,” he added.
