Formula One: Mercedes GP believe to make a come-back soon
Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, sees the entire situation as only an unlucky patch for his team, Mercedes GP. He claims that they have all that is required to step at the top step of the podium and it is only a matter of time before they do.
Last year, the team was able to show a great performance and claimed both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ title of the season. The great 2009 finish mounted the expectations from the team which further heightened, as the team signed the seven times world champion, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg for their driving seats. However, with twelve races of the season already unwrapped and the team has failed to deliver the expected results.
So far, the team had been successful to step on the podium only thrice so far, as they settle for fourth place in the Constructors' Championship. Their signs for having moved to third place are next to null now and currently they are only struggling to keep their fourth place secured from the tightening claws of Renault, which is currently stationed at the fifth place with 106, only 30 points behind Mercedes GP.
The disappointment of the team from this year’s performance could be seen now, as the team boss Ross Brawn has already announced that the team is going to switch their focus towards the development of next year's car, as they return from the summer break.
Well, even in such a situation there is only one man who still seems confident that any day Mercedes GP could turn the tables around. Haug believes that that the team possesses everything required to succeed and they can bounce back any time.
"Of course, as we have often explained, we are not where we want to be, but in a way that's the name of the game in Formula One very often," Haug explained through the official website of the team. "I've been here for quite a while and Ross has been here longer but most of the time you spend improving and chasing the others”.
He furthermore went on to say that, the team has all the expertise and having won the World Championship last year is a proof of that. He admitted that they are surely not the best on the track this year, yet he added that all they needed was some time.
Well, Mercedes have always come out of bad situations brilliantly and in the past recent era the team had been able to win a number of times. While reminiscing of the past situations Haug added, "Ross and the team know what they are talking about. It's very clear that they had a World Championship campaign last year and they very much concentrated on that and still we do not have a bad car but things don't always fit together always 100 percent, that's my view. Sometimes you get it better sometimes you don't achieve your targets.”
He was however satisfied as he said the team has all the basic ingredients, as all are focused and the team is gelled together for the mutual goal, which he proclaimed to be the two most important things.
Haug concluded by saying that probably it is only a matter of a few positive changes within the team and better results would be visible in the future. He elaborated the statement saying that sometimes when a job is not getting don, then one must change people and try. He thought that it was the actual essence of the game.
Well, this is what Formula One is all about; even the worst things could happen to the best drivers and teams around. This element of surprise of the game has actually kept it alive over years.
