Formula One: Michael Schumacher is Still Hopeful After the German GP
“The race is not over unless it is not over,” well this is what now the seven times Formula One champion, Michael Schumacher is saying out aloud. The last weekend’s race at Hockenheim, Germany, was where all expected to see him at his best, as the German racer has a history of bagging four race wins at his home race during his career. Well, the ninth-place finish definitely was not what his German fans waited so long for. However, the Mercedes GP driver is still determined and vows to shine out at this weekend’s Hungarian event, despite the poor show at Hockenheim.
The forty one year old said that he was sad for his performance at the German Grand Prix last weekend, as it was not something that he or his team had expected for the home race. However, that does not mean that he had lost sprits, he explained that they are moving ahead for the next race with a lot of positive feeling. He added that he was happy for the fact that the team had been able to remain calm and positive despite the poor season they have had.
He proclaimed that the team plans to move forward the same way, as they had earlier this year, with neither losing hope nor giving up for the season, rather they believe that Mercedes might be able to glean again at the track any day. He furthermore added that he would try to give his best and just as he had been able to show magic on the track during his peak times, this Hungarian Grand Prix might witness one of those shows of great racing again. He said that it is not only about winning the championship, even if they have lost the battle for the title, still he wishes to see the team end the season at a good position and for that, he would keep fighting till the last race of the year.
While commenting on his car, he said that the car that the start of the season was not a very competitive one for the team but they have tried to improve it all through the season. Some remarkable up gradations have already been done and he said that at the track of Budapest, further evaluations would be made. He hoped that the new changes in the car would enable both the team mates to earn some more decent points.
Ross Brawn, the Mercedes GP team principal, also expressed his hopes for the next eight races of the season telling that both their drivers are capable of turning things around anytime as the season progresses.
He seemed disappointed with the results of last weekend in Germany, as he elaborated that after having a podium finish at Silverstone, the team was expecting to see some good results. Especially because both the drivers had a lot of support of the home fans, but he calmed himself by saying that some weekends are simply not lucky and the last one was one of those.
He further went on to say that, the team is doing a great job operationally; the factory is busy around the clock to improve the pace of the car for which he is very happy.
While looking forward towards the upcoming race, Brawn thought that Hungary is technically a very demanding circuit and he hoped to see it as an opportunity for a thorough test of the car.
He concluded by saying that he is proud of the hard work of all the team’s crew and wished that their labour could bring some good results.
Following the Hungarian race, the factory is going to shut down for two-weeks, which the team principal thought to be a well deserved rest for the employees to recharge their batteries before they return for the final end of the season.
At the moment Mercedes GP stand at fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, and remain shy of a full 76 points from Ferrari that holds the third place.
