Formula One – Michael Schumacher unlikely to be seen next season
Michael Schumacher has never failed to stay in the news. Sometimes for an apparent reason and at times for no reason at all he had been able to catch media attention since always. At the start of the year, his decision of coming back to Formula One magnetised
the reporters as well as the race lovers around the globe, and now as the season takes its final twists and turns, the speculations that he would leave the sport has kept the press busy once again.
BBC’s sports analyst and guru, Eddie Jordan suggested in one of his discussions that the seven-time World Champion would likely retire by the end of this year. Following his statement, there have been a lot of gossips and rumours, as all keep on sniffing
for more on the topic.
Jorden proclaimed, "I've a hunch something fundamental has changed. I believe he is disillusioned and thinking of quitting."
Earlier at the end of 2006 Formula One season, the racing icon announced his retirement from the sport, leaving his hundreds and thousands of fans sad. However, after a long wait of three years, the race-lovers were thrilled to hear about the return of the
driver. Media created much hype and fanfare at his return, however, things did not turn out much like anticipated. The heroic racer had not been able to give even a glimpse of his actual skill all through the season. After a row of poor or average races throughout
the season, now many are of the view that Schumacher actually made a wrong decision by returning to the track and before he damages his repute even further he must retire after this season, now once for all.
However, it is still yet only a speculation and no final decision has been so far announced, as the 41-year-old driver already has a contract of three years with his current team, Mercedes GP.
Earlier this month Jorden explained in one of the shows on BBC, "There are too many indications that now give me the feeling he is reconsidering his commitment to his three-year contract."
Jordan furthermore exclaimed that there are a lot of changes being carried in the Mercedes GP team for the forthcoming season. The team is signing in a lot many new people in place of its older ones ranging from managers to teams members and assistants.
He also reported, “It's also rumoured that as a result of the lack of performance of the Mercedes car, expectations for next year within the team are not as high as they were at first."
Jordan also pointed out the incident of Hungarian Grand Prix, where Schumacher received a penalty for dangerous driving, as he pushed against Rubens Barrichello so close that the latter hardly prevented his car from scratching against the wall, now the pundits
believe that this incident would have a huge impact on Schumacher’s decision of staying back or leaving the sport.
He elaborated, "The Barrichello incident had an effect - he hadn't realised driver’s standards had changed so much, and that has surprised Michael. My guess is Michael has probably come to the conclusion that, despite his undoubted brilliance, just like
this year he's not going to be able to drag that into being a winning car."
The year is to unfold the final five races, and then the Formula One caravan would lead to the next season’s preparations. There are little chances to see better race finishes from Schumacher now, and also there are fewer chances that Mercedes would be able
to grant the fastest car to him next year, so a little more time to go before the final decision of the driver would come out.
