Formula One- More rumours come out about team swaps
Three very prominent drivers of the season have played down all speculations of changing their teams for the upcoming season. Mark Webber of Red Bull, Robert Kubica of Renault and Ferrari’s Felipe Massa has proclaimed to stay with their current teams next
year as well.
The 2010 season is taking its last twists and turns, only five more races to go before we will witness the Champion of this season. Like always, everyone at this part of the season anticipates knowing who goes to which team for the next season.
There had been talks in the paddock that the above named three drivers would not be seen with their same teams next year however they declined all such gossips. Currently they all have already been signed with their respective teams for the 2011under legal
contract however, that has not stopped speculation.
There have been rumours in the air lately suggesting that Webber or Kubica would be moving to Ferrari next season, while Ferrari’s current driver, Massa was expected to move to Sauber, but one of these has been assured so far.
While brushing away all such speculations, Webber said that he already has a contract with Red Bull and is a man of honour who would want to stick to his words. He clearly stated,
“I’d be very surprised if I'm not here next year. Moving to another team is something I'm not interested in.” He further explained that switching a team does not only mean getting a new car and uniform, rather it is about understating another 500 people
and adjusting to their work style which of course is very tough.
The Red Bull driver has not had a very smooth season with his team as the team has been seen carrying in fights several times around the year. At some of the occasions like in Silverstone, the team was even accused of showing biased behaviour for being more
inclined towards its other driver, Sebastian Vettel. However, as season processed the team claimed to have its air cleared.
Owing to the doubts, Webber was asked how he would like to have Fernando Alonso as a team-mate for which he replied with a smile, "I doubt he is coming to Red Bull."
When Massa was asked about the rumours he jokingly replied, "Every year we talk about who is going to replace me- I'm used to it."
He further added that in the last couple of years there have been Valentino Rossi, Robert Kubica, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and many more names suggested to take his place, however he has stuck with his team and now has his contract renewed for
another season, so this kind of thing makes him laugh, he concluded saying.
Massa has had a very rough season with his team, as he had to give his only chance of race win in this season so far, at the German Grand Prix, owing to the team orders of Ferrari. The team had been accused of treating him as a number two driver giving preference
to his teammate Alonso. They were even penalised a $100,000 penalty for their act.
Lastly, the Renault driver, Kubica commented on the speculations stating,
"Of course I'm aware of the rumours. I don't know where they come from. All I can say is that I am with Renault." Kubica had not met the season brilliantly, firstly for not having a very competitive car, and secondly for not being in great form either.
So far, none of the drivers or the teams has disclosed clearly if some changes would be carried, although gossips and rumours keep boiling every now and then.
