Formula One News: Eric Boullier, Renault’s Team Principal is pleased with the team
The season did not start very well for the Renault team. The parent company sold a majority of its shares, their car R30 did not seem to be very convincing in the pre-season testing; the season began with a rookie driver and a new team principal is now making his debut in Formula One racing. However, it is nothing less of a miracle that only after nine races, the team now stands at the fifth place in the Constrictors’ standings as Renaults’ drivers have been able to end on the podium on two occasions. As a result, the team principal, Eric Boullier, seems pleased and proud as he talked to about Renault’s performances in the days to come.
Eric explained that as the season began, the team improved in their performance levels. The Frenchman told that the R30 with which they started off the season needed a lot of up gradation. Boullier clarified that the entire team stood together and is aiming to improve the situation and bring out the best out of what they have at the moment. He felt pleased with how the team has been able to move on and hoped that the team would keep struggling to maintain their performances in the rest of the season.
While commenting on the last race that they had in Valencia, Boullier explained that the team was able to snatch nine points from the Mercedes team. The team principal added that he thinks their battle with Mercedes would keep going on till the end of the year as he thought that Mercedes are a strong competitor and that they should not be underestimated. Mercedes had been able to bag the championship last year and have the services of Michael Schumacher in the ongoing season. Though Schumacher hasn’t performed well in 2010 but the German should never be undermined as he is capable of turning the tables on any given day. Nico Rosberg is another promising driver for the Mercedes team and is continuously raising the standards of the team.
Renault’s rookie driver Vitaly Petrov, who had now completed nine races of the season, also came under heavy discussion. Boullier opined that Petrov seems a far more promising driver than any other rookie at the moment. Petrov stands at the fifteenth place in the Drivers’ Championship and has been able to get six points so far. Rookie drivers Hulkenberg and Kobayashi underwent a lot testing in the previous seasons before they joined the regular circuit in Formula One in 2010. Vitaly on the contrary drove the first F1 car of his entire racing career in February this year. Therefore, one can safely say that with his background, Petrov is doing pretty well.
At the conclusion of the interview, Eric was asked to highlight the major strategy that they would be following for the rest of the season for which he replied that the team has completely revised its plan from the time when Renault had started the season with. Boullier ad mitted that Renault needed to push really hard in order to claim more pole positions. He added that the work that Renault have maintained till now needs to be maintained throughout the season. He added that the team was improving their car as well.
Eric overall seemed pleased with the team so far and has high expectations for the rest of the season. The Renault fans wish to see the team as well as the drivers topping the chart as soon as they can.
