Nico Hulkenberg sets his sights on a Force India seat
Former Williams F1 racing driver, Nico Hulkenberg, considers Force India to be his wild card entry for the 2011 Formula One season.
Following a break up with the Williams team after his contract expired at the end of this season, the young German presently finds himself unemployed and evidently on the lookout for a spot in a team. The youngster was quite impressive
this term, argued many Formula One experts, especially bearing in mind the fact that Williams was an ‘okay’ team and racing alongside veteran Rubens Barrichello wasn’t a walk in the park.
As far as Williams is concerned, they have already found a replacement for the German in the shape of Pastor Maladonda, a twenty five year old Venezuelan driver.
“Force India is our best shot, but it is also no secret that quite a few drivers are trying to land a seat there. We are talking to them and let's wait and see what develops," the 23-year-old told the official F1 website.
Presently, Force India, Toro Rosso, Virgin Racing, HRT F1 and Renault are yet to confirm their lineup which leads to further speculation. Turning our attention to the former Williams driver’s points tally at the end of the 2010
season, it is mathematically a beneficial marriage for the driver and Force India. Hulkenberg ended his exploits this term sandwiched between the two Force India drivers. He had a 1 point advantage over the 15th placed Vitantonio Liuzzi and was
25 points apart from Adrian Sutil who finished 11th in the driver’s standings.
The highlight of Hulkenberg’s career has to be his heroic drive in the Brazilian Grand Prix this year. The 23-year old driver took pole position at the Interlagos circuit and subsequently waved back at his pit crew at the top of
the podium, a recognition of their hard work and his determination. However, the German was quick to respond that owing to the overall competitiveness of the multi-million dollar sport nowadays, it was more about being consistent throughout; being a mere one-hit
wonder just doesn't cut it anymore.
"One lap does not change the course of history. There had been signs before that there was something brewing, because the team repeatedly delayed contract talks. So I was forewarned that something was going on."
Hulkenberg has been an emerging prospect of the 2010 season. It is therefore hoped that his ties with the F1 family persist over the course of the next season.
