Formula One: Pirelli brings an array of colours on 2011 tracks
Pirelli has announced this morning to enter the 2011 grids showing various colours on its tyres. The Italian company announced that it will be next season to distinguish the tyre compound during the race owing to the coloured markings they will carry at
Grand Prix’s.
The tyre manufacturer will return to the sport after a long period of time this season, with the season opener, the Bahrain Grand Prix. As the rubber company completed its rain track tests earlier this week at Yas Marina Circuit, the entire crew seems much
satisfied and confident with the progress. It will be taking place of the sole tyre supplier Bridgestone, which had stayed with the sport for decades.
Two years back, FIA asked the Japanese marque to design the tyres in a way that can help people differentiate the appearance of the 'hard' and 'soft' tyres at the track. Following the instructions, a line was painted in the middle groove of the soft options
to make them recognisable on the track. Moreover, as the slicks returned in 2009, the soft Bridgestones were given a green circle at its sides.
While talking to the media earlier today, the Italian company reported that a complete new concept is to be introduced by them for the 2011 season. It was said that each compound will have the words 'Pirelli P Zero' written on its sidewall, in striking colours.
As per the early reports, the super-soft tyres will carry red paint whereas the soft ones will be indicated by white colour. However, the medium tyres will get the text in blue, while yellow will be used for the hard tyres. It was also revealed that the
full wet tyres will get a sidewall dye in yellow, and hues of red.
Moreover, the research and development boss of Pirelli, Maurizio Boiocci told the media that besides being very excited from the results of the tests, he is also confused. He admitted that they are yet not sure how the tyres will react in the presence of
KERS and adjustable rear wings. He explained, "If the speed came on gradually, for sure there would be no problems. But it remains to be seen what happens when all the power comes on suddenly."
When asked about his driver’s pick for the season he stated, "Changes like this always benefit the best ones, and the best ones are Hamilton and Alonso. But I don't think the changing of tyres brands will be a big problem for anyone."
