Formula One: Pressure on Michael Schumacher increases
A German newspaper reported that Michael Schumacher will give just one more season to prove his worth to the team and stay in the Formula 1 or his 3 year contract with be ended early.
Michael Schumacher has been struggling this year, as he has not been able to finish on the podium for a single race. Michael is currently in Mercedes, which is a strong team but has not been able to perform up to the mark due to some tyre problems according
to him. Schumacher does not seem the same anymore, as his teammate Nico Rosberg is constantly beating him at every race.
Nico is driving the same car in the same conditions so there is no excuse in the world that would explain Michael’s sloppy performance. The German won the Formula 1 title 7 times and decided to retire in 2006 before returning to the sport this year. Michael
joined Mercedes GP that was previously known as Brawn GP. The team made its debut last year and what a debut it was. The team won both titles quite comfortably with Jenson Button as the current World Champion. Michael singed with the team for 3 years.
After the Japanese grand prix, a magazine wrote that the German would have to pick up the pace if he wants to stay in the sport.
“Bild knows: there is a deadline for Schumi. If he is still behind in 2011, then his Mercedes time is up, three year contract or not”.
Team boss, Ross Brawn at first seemed happy with his team’s performance this year as compared to their package but now seems a bit reluctant and wants to win next season no matter what.
“With Nico [Rosberg], I'm happy. Now we expect progress from Michael, who is not yet at his best. I would prefer if they regularly beat one another. It is not good when one driver is usually behind the other”.
Nico Rosberg has out qualified Michael Schumacher in 12 out of the 15 races that have taken place so far in this season and has scored more points than he has as well. Michael is currently in 10th place, while his teammate Nico is in 7th
place. Many believe that his return to the Formula 1 has been a disaster up until now and it would have been better if he did not return to Formula 1 at all. The German has another season to prove though and maybe Michael succeeds to prove that he is still
the best driver on track.
