Formula One: Red Bull problems threatening the season
It is widely known that there are some problems in the Red Bull camp that refuse to go away. Even though Mark Webber came out and said that it is all good now, after he had a detailed discussion with team boss Horner. There is still immense potential in the saga to turn ugly in more than one ways.
Recently there was a revelation made that Mark Webber had an upset stomach before the race, which was caused by some prawns he ate at a party before the race. The part in question was held by Red Bull boss Horner. Instantly there were jokes flying around that the boss may have intentionally fed him tainted food. They were all jokes of course.
Still one has to bear in mind that this is Formula one, a sport where drivers in rivalry try to run each other off the track, while some crash their cars on purpose following some big conspiracy, and even lie to the FIA. There are even worse examples of controversies in the sport and maybe it would be just a matter of time before the prawn episode or something like that from Red Bull takes the centre stage.
The next race is in Germany, and who knows what tales the German track, Hockenheim, has planned for the formula one drama.
Looking at the way this season has panned out; there have been number of controversies since the season began in Bahrain 4 months ago. Every race seems to throw up a new story for the tabloid to feed on.
The 2 British drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button continue to lead the driver standings, but the lead has been cut down at Silverstone. Red Bull may have fallen behind in the standings but still they do have the fastest car. There is no surprise that teams like McLaren are enjoying the problems at Red Bull. The way this season has gone it may come down to which team can get along better as far as the title is concerned.
Mark Webber is right now on very thin ice, he made a sarcastic comment on the team radio after winning the Silverstone Grand Prix. Webber who was joyous after winning the race said “not bad for a 2nd best driver is it”. Even though he sat down with Horner and worked things out, it still did not go down to well with the higher authorities. Webber was upset after a front wing part was taken off from his car and placed into Vettel’s. Milton Keynes and people at the Red Bull headquarters in Salzburg still remain unhappy about the Australian’s comments.
This is not the first time Webber has accused the team of treating him as the 2nd best. Earlier in Turkey, Vettel in an effort to get the race lead slammed into Webber’s car, the accident ended Vettel’s race and Webber who was leading the race finished 3rd.
Webber now says that he wishes he could go back in time and undo his mistake. Experts though believe that that is just a media stunt. They say that Webber fully knew that his comments would be heard by all, yet he still went ahead and made suck remarks public.
There are still 8 races to go in the season, and Red Bull would have to put a lid on all the infighting and problems between the 2 drivers, While McLaren also have their share of rivalry issues between Hamilton and Button. Whoever gets that sorted in time would be on top, when the dust settles in November in Abu Dhabi.
